JoAnne Bollschweiler Parkes

–

St George, Utah

Ivins, Utah – JoAnne Bollschweiler Parkes, 95, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving children: her angel son Steven, her daughters Diana and Linda, and her son Jon. She was born February 1,1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Clayton and Lenore Bollschweiler. She married Kenneth Richard Parkes in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 7, 1949. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple in 1964. They were blessed with four children. They took the family on many vacations, and they lived in several different states. She and Ken spent four years in Germany and were able to travel to various countries and to see many wonderful places. Later in life, she even traveled to China. She was amazingly talented as an Artist, painting in both oil and watercolors. While in Ivins, she taught watercolor classes to many of her friends and neighbors. She was crafty also and made items to sell and give to people. She and Ken both enjoyed being actively involved in their community. They were volunteers at their church, Zion National Park, Dixie Hospital, Art Museums and various events. Her favorite was volunteering as an usher at Tuacahn Amphitheatre for over 30 years. Her family members and friends had a brick placed there in honor of her service. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and a service group called Hidden Pearls among others. She and Ken moved to Ivins in 1988 and quickly fell in love with the beautiful red mountains and their wonderful neighbors. JoAnne was extremely sociable and she loved everyone she met. She enjoyed talking to complete strangers and many became her friends. For the last 18 years or so, she loved taking special trips with her daughters [and sometimes others] to all over the United States and even to a few foreign countries. She loved having her son, Jon, and his family live with her until she moved to The Retreat at Sunbrook where she cherished many of the residents and staff. She had four children, 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 9 nieces, 5 nephews and many beloved friends. She is survived by her daughters, Diana Lee [Kurt} van Uitert, Linda Sue [Richard] Ringler, and her son, Jon Edward Parkes [Michelle]. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Kenneth Richard Parkes [2004], her son, Steven Richard Parkes [2003], her parents, Clayton and Lenore Bollschweiler and her sisters, Colleen Wilson and Carol Butler. JoAnne lived a full life with all its beauty and heartaches, with all its memories and moments, with all its triumphs and quiet moments for 95 years. Thank you for sharing your life with us. You will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her family would like to invite you to her Graveside Service at Ivins City Cemetery [200 W 400 N, Ivins] at 10:00am on June 26, 2026. Her “Celebration of Life” will be held the same day at the LDS church [625 E Center St, Ivins] at 2:00pm. The family would like to thank the staff of Applegate Hospice and The Retreat at Sunbrook for the wonderful love and care that they showed her. Special thanks to her niece Cindy Barnett for taking the time for special visits and running errands.
