Marlene Martin McQuivey 1945–2026 Our wonderful mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend, Marlene Martin McQuivey passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at her home in Washington, Utah. Marlene was 80 years old. She was born on August 29, 1945, in Payson, Utah, the second daughter and fourth child of six children born to Elaine Reynolds and Earl Wilford Martin. Marlene attended Peteetneet Elementary School and Payson Jr. and Sr. High schools, where she knew all of her classmates and enjoyed the small, hometown privileges of growing up in Payson. During her childhood years, she played neighborhood games, explored abandoned houses, went fishing with her dad, and learned to cook and keep house from her mother. Marlene’s first marriage was to Shirl L. Beddoes, and from that union she was blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Burke Lon Beddoes. A second marriage to Merrill Dale Rose brought her two beautiful baby girls, Lisa Rose and Teri Rose. As the saying goes, “The third time’s the charm,” and when Marlene met and fell in love with Jerry McQuivey, she knew she had found the love of her life. They have been happily married for 57 years. From their marriage, another precious daughter, Dana McQuivey, completed their family. Marlene and Jerry lived for more than 30 years in Midvale, Utah, where they reared their children on a quiet street in a home filled with love and sacrifice. Their home and family often felt especially perfect whenever they had the privilege and joy of regular visits from Jerry’s children, Janna and Jeff. From her parents’ teachings and example, Marlene learned early the importance and value of hard work. She was an excellent homemaker, keeping an exceptionally clean and tidy home and serving delicious hot meals daily to her family. Marlene took after her father. Her mind and hands were adept at making repairs, gardening, and performing any physical labor required. She learned from her mother that there is great joy in giving and doing for others. Marlene worked a few jobs outside the home. The most significant of these was her position at the Delta Center ticket office, where she became friends with many Utah Jazz basketball players and was able to procure great seats for Jazz games and other Delta Center performances for her family and friends. These family members and friends still enjoy fond memories of time spent at the Delta Center, courtesy of Marlene. Marlene loved shopping and dining out, savoring many different cuisines and seeking the most special gifts to bestow upon her loved ones. Christmas meant filling her car to the brim with gifts for everyone in her circle. Grandchildren’s birthdays meant a showering of presents and significant spoiling. Marlene was an incredibly generous person and would “give you the shirt off her back.” In 2003, Marlene and Jerry moved to St. George, where they spent the next 15 years. During those retirement years, Marlene and Jerry cared for grandchildren, worked in their yard, and enjoyed the beautiful southern Utah weather. In 2019, Marlene and Jerry, along with their daughters, Lisa and Dana, built their dream home in Washington, where they have resided together since that time, with Lisa and Dana watching over their parents and helping them navigate through their advancing age and associated medical issues. What a blessing to have such caring children! Marlene was known for her unwavering devotion to those she loved. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, her dedication to family and friends, her generosity, her strong work ethic, and her incredible strength. She is survived by her husband, Jerry McQuivey; her daughters, Lisa Rose, Teri Rose, and Dana McQuivey; stepchildren, Janna McQuivey Ford, Jeff McQuivey; 15 grandchildren, Roxie, Spencer, Samantha, Zacquery, Jade, Kyla, Shaelynn, Cassy, Austie, Chelsea, Lindsay, Karlee, Haley, Alex, and Jayden; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Laura Hinton. Marlene was preceded in death by her son, Burke Beddoes, and Burke’s wife, Nancy; her parents; and her siblings, Bob, Connie, Ron, Dennis, and Janis. At Marlene’s request, she will be cremated, and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, perform an unsolicited act of kindness or generosity for someone else. Marlene would like that.
