Michael J Sullivan

–

St George, Utah

Michael J Sullivan passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2026, at 84 years of age, surrounded by his wife and children. Mike was born January 16, 1942, in Hurricane, Utah, to Cecil Dwayne Sullivan and Ila Stratton Sullivan. Growing up, he was widely well-liked, possessed many lifelong friends, and was an avid athlete, playing varsity football, basketball, and baseball in high school. Following high school, he studied at Dixie College before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission. Upon returning, he completed his bachelor’s degree at Brigham Young University. After college, Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served four years during the Vietnam War, with assignments in England, Turkey, and Pakistan. Returning home, he met, dated, and married Cynthia Clove in the St. George Temple on February 4, 1972. Together, they raised five children and he built a successful career and business in plumbing and construction. Mike was an enduring example of duty, determination, and quiet service. This was exemplified by his church callings, military service, and the extraordinary number of people he quietly helped in times of need—especially the many neighbors and friends for whom he provided unpaid plumbing services over the years. When not serving others, he dedicated time to his favorite passions: gardening and golf. Despite his lifelong strength and athletic nature, Mike faced significant health challenges later in life. He survived a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery at age 54, as well as severe head trauma from a ladder fall at 65. In his 70s, he weathered a series of mini-strokes and developed Parkinsonism, which gradually diminished his physical strength and mobility over his final 12 years. Through every trial, Mike remained ever-positive and determined, continuously fighting for his independence and his ability to show up for the people he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia Clove Sullivan; his children, David (Lora) Sullivan of Lehi, UT, Cecil (Tiffany) Sullivan of Murray, UT, Ivan Sullivan of Hurricane, UT, Sophie (Andrew) Langston of Hurricane, UT, and Rhett Sullivan of Hurricane, UT; his 9 grandchildren, Wells, Emily, Ben, Sara, James, Olivia, Michael, Ian, and Luke; and his sister, Ila Dawn Werner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Ila, and his brothers, Jerry, Dwayne, Jack, and Ferrel Sullivan. The family expresses deep gratitude to Mission Hospice and its exceptional, kind caretakers, Lacy and Trissy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you honor Mike’s memory by extending kindness and service to your neighbors. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 28, at 11:00 AM at 272 S 700 W, Hurricane, Utah. A viewing will take place prior to the service at 9:30 AM at the same location. Interment will follow at the Hurricane City Cemetery. To join via Zoom: https://zoom.us/j/92215871254
