Carrie "Joy" Newman Cullimore

On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, Carrie “Joy” Newman Cullimore, loving wife of Ralph Cullimore and mother of four children passed away at the age of 83. Joy was born August 29, 1939, in Tremonton, Utah to Henry Andrew and Norma Estella (Anderson) Newman. Joy grew up on a farm in Bothwell, Utah, the youngest of four children, with 3 older brothers, where she learned the value of hard work! Joy’s father passed on to her his love of cars, and she particularly loved her newest “plug in.” Joy graduated from Bear River High School in 1957, where she was a majorette and a member of the speech and drama teams. Joy married her high school sweetheart, Ralph William Cullimore in the Logan Temple on July 1, 1957. Joy loved the arts, and music was a big part of her life. She played the piano and organ, loved to attend plays, family member’s recitals, and she and Ralph were season ticket holders for the Celebrity Concert Series for several years. They raised one son, Doug and three daughters Cari, Coni, and Lisa in Concord California. She was the mother that everyone wished they had. When all her children were in school, she returned to her studies, attending Diablo Valley College and San Francisco State University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in Apparel Design. Joy also founded and ran a very successful small business, Le Mariage, a wedding coordinating and catering business for over 10 years with her longtime friend, Carol Haynie. When she moved to St.George, after her husband retired, she worked for the Utah Foster Care Foundation for a number of years. Joy loved people, accepting all, making everyone feel like they were one of her “peeps.” She had a passion for teaching people: her children, her grandchildren and great children, her yoga friends, Teen Moms, adult education sewing students, foster parents, young women, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP’s), Gospel Doctrine, folks she met in the mission field, and so many others. During her time in St. George, she was particularly connected to her Tuesday/Friday yoga ladies and together, they created a loving and welcoming community. Joy loved to cook and celebrate holidays with friends and family, and Christmas was her favorite time of year! Everyone loved her Christmas candy and homemade dish cloths. Her posterity especially enjoyed her cinnamon twists and hot rolls. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her beloved children and grandchildren all enjoyed their birthday shopping trips, lunches, and pedicures with Grandma Joy! Joy was known for her infectious smile, silliness and optimistic nature. She was resilient, very forgiving and loved her family beyond measure. She lived an authentic, Christ centered life, striving to emulate her Savior in all that she did. Her forgiving nature was one of her greatest characteristics. In addition, with her husband Ralph, Joy served two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. The first mission was to support a Cambodian Branch in Oakland, California while residing at her home in Concord. Her next mission took her to New Zealand where they served for one and a half years. They both loved the friends they met and worked with there. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Stella, twin infant daughters, and 3 brothers, Odell, Kent and Ned. She is survived by her husband, Ralph, four children Doug (Julie) Cullimore, Cari (Jeff) Orr, Coni Cullimore, Lisa (Steve) Blonquist, 14 grandchildren, 20.8 great grandchildren, and 3 sisters-in-law, Beverly Newman, Wilma Newman and Pat Newman. The family would like to thank Zions Way, friends and neighbors for all their loving care! Viewings will be held Friday, July 7, 2023, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, July 8 from 11:00am to 11:45am at the Mulberry LDS Chapel, 3381 Mulberry Drive in Bloomington. A funeral service will take place in the same location on Saturday, July 8 at 12:00pm. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George.
