Donald Holladay Croft

Donald Holladay Croft, 87, passed away on Friday, March 29th, in St. George, Utah. He was born May 5, 1936, in Martin, Tennessee to Raymond Walker and Evelyn Josephine Croft. Don left this life, with his wife and daughters by his side on Good Friday and entered the presence of Jesus for eternity, following a lifetime spent pointing his family toward Jesus and “the end of the story,” as he would say. He was a devoted, involved father of 5 girls who have early memories of him tucked in bed reading his Bible when they would go in to say goodnight. His life took him to live in many places, from Tennessee to Michigan, Arizona, California, Nevada and finally Utah. He appreciated beautiful landscapes and had a special affinity for the desert. In his younger years, he served as a police officer in Phoenix, Arizona, and then worked on heavy equipment in Michigan where he would often give his girls rides on the big Caterpillars. Later, he flipped homes and had a wallpaper business- skills he taught his daughters. Don enjoyed playing golf, trips with his family to Mexico and could always be found savoring a good book. He loved reading everything, but mostly enjoyed reading his Bible. He loved learning new things such as photography and he enjoyed exploring challenging questions with those he loved. His endless curiosity, great sense of humor, and confidence in his faith made having deep conversations with him a true joy that will be greatly missed. Affectionately called “Papa” by his many grandchildren, he always enjoyed a good game of cards, which remains a staple of family gatherings. He is survived by his wife, Elly Croft; his five daughters, Tammi Mitchell, Robin Traphagen, Donna Joiner, Rena Demirjian, and Tricia Montes; 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren & 1 great-great-grandchild, and his beloved dog, Susie. He was preceded in death by his sister; Virginia, and brother; Jerry. The family would like to thank Dixie Hospice Company, Specifically, Nurses, Will Heimuli and Sally Kae as well as CNA, Aimee Bagnell whose kindness and gentleness was a huge blessing to the family.
