Dorothy Alice Strawhun McKeehan

Our angel sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend joined her eternal family on September 30, 2016 at the age of 103. Dorothy Alice Strawhun McKeehan was born on July 8, 1913. She was the second daughter of three daughters born to Lewis Strawhun and Meta Margaret Booth Strawhun just outside of Broken Arrow Oklahoma. Her mother died in 1916 when Dorothy was only 3 years old. Her father remarried and there were five children: two boys and three girls by that marriage. She married Troy W. McKeehan in May of 1936, during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. As a result of that, she and Troy moved to California where he found work. Dorothy and Troy were blessed with two children: a daughter Meta Louise McKeehan Lovejoy and John Lewis McKeehan both of which served in our nation’s military. Dorothy spent most of her adult life, well into her 80s taking care of elderly family members. She moved to St. George in 2005 and fell instantly in love with not only the town but the people. She would often say to everyone after she moved here that she never met a person she didn’t like and it is well known that those she met fell in love with her. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. George East Stake 12th Ward. She loved life. She loved the beauty that surrounded her. She became a die-hard Jazz fan. She and her two sisters, age 80 and 87, who live here in St. George would never miss a Jazz game. Dorothy is preceded in death by: her husband; two children; a brother, Luther Dwight Strawhun; and three sisters: Mary Esther Miller, Eunice Louise Faddis, and Ethel Eldora Faddis, all of Oklahoma. She is survived by: a brother: Amos Lincoln Strawhun of Santa Maria, CA; two sisters, D. Carolyn Anderson and Birmah Glenn Findley both of St. George; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation to the wonderful caregivers at Applegate Hospice and 5 Counties. A viewing and service will be held on October 15, 2016, at Serenity Funeral Home, 1316 South 400 East #A-3, just off Riverside Dr. The viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with services to follow from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Dorothy will be buried in Southern California, Whittier in Rose Hills Cemetery.
