Douglas Ray Shepard

Santa Clara, UT - Douglas Ray Shepard, 64, passed away on June 8, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in his home in Santa Clara, Utah. Doug was born on August 3, 1960, in Murray, Utah, to Richard and June Shepard. He married the love of his life, Pamela Morgan Shepard, on September 1, 1983, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Theirs was a true love story, spending over four wonderful decades together. Together, Doug and Pam raised three children: Brittney (Ben) Laidlaw, Dallas, and Michael (Sarah). Doug was also a devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren: Abigail, Jackson, Elizabeth, Georgia, Samuel, Emma, and Amelia. Doug’s family was the most important thing to him, and he found the greatest joy in spending quality time with them. He could always be found at a sporting event, a band performance, or any other number of activities to support his family. After graduating from Murray High School in 1978, Doug served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Raleigh, North Carolina. After completing his mission he met and married his sweetheart and together, they moved to St. George, Utah, to begin their journey together as he began working for Country Crisp. He spent most of his working years with Old Home Bakery, which took him across southwestern Utah daily. One of Doug’s greatest qualities was his willingness to serve. He served as a Boy Scoutmaster for nearly two decades, giving his time and expertise to help large groups of scouts have an excellent experience. He also found opportunities to serve his neighbors in other ways, always going out of his way to help those in need. Doug loved the outdoors and living in a place that allowed him ample opportunities to enjoy it. He often found times to get outside, whether to fish, camp, or hike. Doug was also an avid sports fan, cheering for his beloved Utah Utes, Chicago Cubs, and Utah Jazz. Doug’s later life was an example of courage and resilience that will be remembered by his family and loved ones. While he is gone today, we are grateful to know that he can now rest and be with his Mom, Dad, and Sister who passed before him. Doug is survived by his wife, Pam, his children Brittney (Ben) of Santa Clara, Utah, Dallas of Santa Clara, Utah, and Michael (Sarah) of Pickerington, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and his brother Mike (Mary) Shepard. He was preceded in death by his father (Richard), mother (June), and sister (Sandra). The family would like to thank Aaron, Liz, and Dr. Mecham with Intermountain Health Hospice; his granddaughter, Abby Laidlaw, who served as his CNA during his time in hospice; and the many doctors and care teams that have helped manage his diagnosis over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those interested make a donation the Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) in Doug’s memory. A funeral service will be held on June 14, 2025, at the LDS Chapel located at 3680 Pioneer Parkway in Santa Clara, Utah. A viewing will take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the services.
