Esther Mae Barney

Esther Mae Garduno Barney, 69 of St George, UT, passed away on September 21, 2016, with her family at her side in St George, UT. She was born January 27, 1947 in Taos, NM, to Jose and Sally Garduno. She married Richard Barney on April 12, 1969 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan, UT. Esther was raised in Lark, UT, she lived in West Jordan, South Jordan, and eventually St. George, UT. She graduated from Bingham High School, in Copperton, UT in 1965, attended New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, and worked many years for UP&L/ Pacific Corp. She loved and fought through many challenges as her husband, children, and grandkids were her Joy. She always was looking out for the needs of others, and asked nothing in return except love and smiles. Spending time in Laguna Beach, CA was her favorite location to spend time with family and friends. Esther loved to cook and enjoyed reading and playing with her grandchildren. She was very active at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan, and the St. George Catholic Church. She lived an eventful life and made a lot of friends during her time here. Esther would want people to celebrate her life. We have a new Guardian Angel to watch upon us. She is survived by: her husband Richard; her daughter Shelli (Mark) Varoz of Cape Coral, FL; son Richard Jr. (Marianthi) Barney of Las Vegas, NV; 3 granddaughters Madisen, Alexis and Sophie; one grandson; Jake; her mother, Sally Garduno; brothers Arnold (Phyllis) Garduno, Vincent (Lynn) Garduno; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by: her father Jose “Pete”; brother Pete Jr.; and sister Helen. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Dixie Intermountain Regional, the staff and nurses at Coral Desert, Bella Terra, and the Hospice staff, especially Nurse Michelle. A mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church at 11:00am on Monday, September 26, 2016, St. George, UT. Interment will follow at the Tonaquint Cemetery.
