Gilbert Stanley Johnson

La Verkin, Utah “Gil” Gilbert Stanley Johnson Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2017 in the comfort of his home in La Verkin, UT. He was born December 31, 1945 to Gilbert Stanley Johnson Sr. and Frances Alice Gleave at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, IL. He was married to Deanna Gaye Langston in Mesquite, NV in 1980, divorced, then reconciled 27 years later and remarried in Hurricane, UT on July 7,2011. Most of Gils youth was spent in Chicago where he spent many happy years surround by maternal and paternal grandparents. At the age of eleven the family moved to Phoenix, AZ where he resided until he entered the US Navy in Nov 1965 serving aboard the USS Fred T. Berry. During this time he served in the Viet Nam War. He was very patriotic and loved his country, and the USN. He made many life long friends who he kept in touch with over the years. He was baptized a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in his youth and was proud of that and his commitment to Christ. He loved his family deeply. He did his very best in all his endeavors. He was a Master Cement Mason and was proud of some of the specialized architectural. His introduction to Utah was when he worked on the Virgin River Gorge and it was love at first sight. He loved the outdoors and mountains, especially lakes and rivers. He often said he was living in “God’s Country” after moving to UT. He is survived by his wife Deanna, daughter Heather Ann (Joshua) Glazier, grandchildren Bailey Ann, Quinn Kelly, Colt Leon And Meadow Ann of Diamond Valley, UT, Beloved Step Sons Gary Brent Christensen, Washington, UT and Jason Lee (Elaine) Christensen. Hurricane UT Grandchildren Gabriel Fritz, Milo Isak , Solveig Amia, MacKenzie Lynn, Gadge Leeland, Ashton Grant and great granddaughter Summer Phoenix. Sister Frances Franklin, Houston, TX Nieces Dianna and Chrissy, and their children of TX. Brother in laws, Grant Albert (Lysle) Langston and William Brent (Terry) Langston, and Floyd (Jill) Wilkinson. And many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents in law Grant and Arvilla Graf Langston and sister in law Marilyn Langston Wilkinson. The family would like the thank the La Verkin 2nd Ward for their outpouring of love and fellowship. He had so many folks including neighbors whom he regarded as friends. This small community welcomed him into their hearts and lives. He was touched by the small town values he came to hold dear. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday March 21, 2017 in the LaVerkin Stake Center. A visitation will precede the service beginning at 1:00PM. Interment to follow at Hurricane City Cemetery.
