Harold "Hal" Curtis Eward

Harold Curtis "Hal" Eward, 81, passed away on February 22, 2025, in St. George, Utah. Born on July 29, 1943, in Seattle, Washington, Hal also lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Illinois, England, Alaska, and Utah. His life was filled with adventure, dedication, and deep love for his family and community. Hal proudly served his country as a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller and radio disc jockey from 1963 to 1967. During his service, he completed a TDY tour in Vietnam in 1963 and was stationed at Bentwaters Air Force Base in England. His time in the military instilled in him a strong sense of duty and camaraderie that remained with him throughout his life. Following his military service, Hal pursued a diverse and successful career. He started as a car salesman working for his father, and later found his passion as an air traffic controller, where his friendly nature and love for aviation made him a natural fit. His enthusiasm for cars made him an avid Corvette and Rolls-Royce enthusiast who enjoyed attending car shows and being part of the Corvette Club. Later in life, he became a real estate owner and agent, helping families find homes with the same warmth and care he showed everyone he met. His commitment to serving others continued as he took on the role of Volunteer Manager for Mended Hearts, offering support to those facing heart-related health challenges. Hal's love for aviation never faded; he was a skilled airplane pilot who found joy in taking to the skies. He loved fishing and also had a competitive spirit when it came to bowling and playing cards. A dedicated member of the Rotary Club and American Legion, he valued community involvement and cherished the friendships he built through these organizations. Faith played an essential role in Hal’s life. He was a founding member of New Promise Lutheran Church in St. George, Utah, where he remained active throughout his years. His strong faith guided him through life's challenges and triumphs alike. Above all else, Hal was devoted to his family. He shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Rose. Together they built a loving home filled with laughter and warmth. He was incredibly proud of their children: Renee' Carlson (Sean), Michelle Butler (Eric), and Curtis Eward (Ruthann). His love extended to his sister Donna Erickson (Greg) and his grandchildren: Leah, (Herbie), Nathan, (Rachel), Adam, Sarah, Thomas, Brittany, as well as nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Gwendolyn Aleigh Carlson; parents Hale J. Eward and Esther Martinson; step-parents Georgia Eward and Ralph Martinson; parents-in-law Alida Mae Bruyn and George S. Bruyn Sr.; along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law. Hal had an unforgettable presence—he was a storyteller at heart who loved sharing jokes and making people smile. A true people person, he seemed to know everyone he met and left lasting impressions wherever he went. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Hal’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity of spirit and boundless love. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him best.
