J. Lloyd Wilson

J. Lloyd Wilson, 90 years old, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, doing what he loved--working in his yard in St. George, UT. Lloyd was born July 27, 1935, to Lilith Porter and Jesse Stephen Wilson in a homestead cabin at the mouth of Wilson Canyon in Garfield County. The third of 13 children, he was proud of his pioneer roots and four generations of LDS forefathers. Family was very important to him, and the center of his life. The J. in his name is in tribute and honor to his father. Lloyd received his education from Panguitch High School, Dixie College, and Brigham Young University, finishing his Education degree at California State University Hayward. He had a strong desire to teach and serve. During that time, he also served an LDS mission in the New England States Mission. During his time at Brigham Young University, he met and fell in love with his wife, Charlene Frances Seibert Wilson. They were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 18, 1958. They moved to California and welcomed their first daughter, Lorene Joy Wilson, on September 2, 1961, followed by daughter, Glenna Dorene Wilson, on May 24, 1963. In 1966, Lloyd built their dream home, himself, in Danville, California. He spent his entire career in California teaching Junior High math and computer science at the Castro Valley School District. His desire to learn and pass that on drove him to achieve his Master of Mathematics. His life of service expanded and encompassed the Marine Corps Reserves and countless LDS church callings in leadership, teaching, and faith. He loved caring and providing a full life for their special needs daughter, Glenna, and his Mother-in-law, Jewel, until her passing at the age of 94. Lloyd’s life and heart were guided by his family, heritage, and education. His favorite place on earth was Wilson Canyon with his work at the family Mammoth Co. Sawmill and building personal and family cabins. He was very physically active throughout his life—taking meticulous care of everything he owned, working hard, playing hard, loving his boating, fishing, skiing, gardening, and yes, raking. He dedicated his life to the outdoors and serving others. Lloyd is survived by his loving spouse, Charlene, his daughter, Lorene (Wyman) Roberts, and daughter Glenna Wilson; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 12:00p.m. at the Hatch LDS Chapel in Hatch, UT. A private family graveside service will be held before the memorial service at 11:00am at the Hillsdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dove Center (www.dovecenter.org).
