Karen Brown

Karen Louise Brown, age 62, passed away June 13, 2026, after five years battling a vicious form of lung cancer. She passed peacefully at home with her husband, Stan, in Washington, Utah. Karen was born July 13th, 1962, in Los Angeles, California, to Martin Brown and Lorraine Brown. She attended Immaculate Heart Catholic School K through 12. She graduated from the dental hygiene program at University of Southern California where she was class president in 1985. Her first job was with Dr. Les Horvath, who was a Heisman Trophy winner. Karen worked in periodontal care for many years before turning to teaching hygiene to others. Karen married Stanley Arthur Brown, the love of her life, on Sept 11, 1999. They lived life to the fullest, made better by being together. Both would do just about anything to help a neighbor, a friend, or even a stranger. They felt that the giving of themselves to others enriched their own lives; yet their giving and their caring was pure and boundless. People were Karen’s passion, and she absolutely loved to entertain. She loved gathering people together and would happily host others, even when she wasn’t feeling her best. Being around her just felt like home. Her creativity was pure magic, especially when it came to her handmade cards. Each one was a masterpiece – thoughtful, unique, and filled with love. Receiving one felt like receiving a piece of her heart, and it always made the receiver feel special. Karen’s dedication to teaching was equally inspiring. She poured her heart into her students, even tutoring those outside her own school simply because she cared about their success. Her creativity made learning come alive, helping students truly understand tactile sensitivity in a fun, hands-on way. Karen touched countless lives in the most beautiful and lasting way. She had an incredible gift of insight, almost as if she could see ahead and understand exactly what someone needed before they even knew it themselves. She had a remarkable way of bringing people together. She believed in inclusion and connection. She encouraged people to reconnect, to forgive, and to hold close the ones they love. She was approachable, intuitive, and somehow seemed to understand what you were feeling without a single word being spoken. Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds. Karen was a true warrior, a role model, and a shining inspiration. Through her battle with cancer, she chose unmatched strength and grace. Even in the hardest moments, she chose positivity, joy, and living life fully. She demonstrated that it is possible to embrace life with courage, laughter, and purpose – even when time feels uncertain. Karen’s legacy is one of kindness, connection, creativity, and unwavering love. She made the world brighter simply by being in it, and her impact will continue to ripple outward in all of us who were lucky enough to know her. Karen is survived by her husband, Stanley Brown; her father, Martin Brown, Florence, Montana; her sister Laurie Raleigh, Vancouver, WA; her sister Cheri Yamamoto (Alan), Vancouver, WA; and her aunt Joyce Sawaya, Santa Cruz, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine Brown.
