Karma Lucy Pugmire Dungan 1933-2013 Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Karma Pugmire Dungan returned home to her loving Heavenly Father on May 27, 2013, joining those who passed on before her for a joyous Pugmire family reunion. Karma was born in St. Charles, Idaho on December 14th, 1933 to Jonathan James and Ada Lillian Pugmire. She and her twin brother Kay were the youngest of 11 children. Karma and Kay were the “dolls” that Santa brought to the Pugmire girls the Christmas of 1933. Her childhood years spent on the farm in the Bear Lake Valley were filled with simplicity and adventure, but also a lot of hard work. That ability to work hard and to enjoy the feeling of accomplishment was a gift she carried throughout her life and shared with her children. Though she later moved to Ogden, Utah, Karma always held a special place in her heart for the Bear Lake area. Karma graduated from Ogden High School and took great pride in her alma mater, jokingly insisting that her children and grandchildren bow their heads in respect when driving past the school. Not long after her graduation, she met her sweetheart Fred Dungan who swept her off her feet with his charm and fancy dance moves. They were married on July 6, 1953 and their nearly 60 year marriage was a shining example of love, tenderness, and strength to all who knew them. Karma was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her heart swelled with pride when talking about the missions of her son, 5 of her grandchildren and the missions she hoped the rest of her grandchildren would serve. Family vacations, Jazz music, Kansas City Chiefs’ football games and great friends enriched Karma’s years in Kansas City where she and her husband Fred raised their kids. After many years the family relocated to Scotts Valley, California until her husband’s retirement. St. George, Utah became their retirement retreat until her passing. A patron of the arts, Karma regularly attended events at the Tuacahn Amphitheater and Cedar City Shakespeare Festival, but equally enjoyed cheering on the sports teams at Dixie State University and BYU. Her greatest joy, however, came in supporting her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews in their sporting, theatrical, and academic endeavors. Those who had the great privilege of knowing and loving Karma feel blessed to have had their lives touched by her compassion, loving heart, and beautiful smile. Karma is survived by: her husband Fred Dungan; children Toni (Mark) Woods, Tracy (Alan) Lovejoy, and Thad (Becky) Dungan; 10 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; siblings Dona Vallier and Jack Pugmire. Karma was preceded in death by her parents; brothers James, Reed, Jarvis, and Kay Pugmire; her sisters Leola Taylor, Myrtle McGuire, Marge Walk, and Verna Saner; and her grandson Joshua McKay Lovejoy. The family would like to thank Dr. Claude Warner and Dixie Hospice Care for the incredible and loving care that Karma received. Karma requested a graveside celebration, which will be held at Tonaquint Cemetery on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 12:00 noon.
