Keith Thompson Smith

Keith T Smith, 95, passed away on December 31, 2022 in his home in Ivins Utah surrounded by his family. He was born on November 17, 1927 in Salt Lake City, UT to Samuel Cooper Smith and Helen ‘Nellie’ Allan Thompson Smith. He married Mary Ann Carter in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1954. Keith lived in 19 different homes in his first 17 years of life as his father worked for the Forest Service in California. At 17 he signed up with the Navy to serve at the end of WW2. He returned home and attended BYU and received his degree in Economics. While in college he acted as the yearbook photographer. He met Mary Ann Carter, the editor of the yearbook and after his graduation, they married. For the majority of his working career, he worked for the state of Utah in their Workforce Services department as a statistician. Keith loved the great out-of-doors. He taught his family to hike, explore, motorcycle, ski and camp. He served various callings and missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to build things. His family was blessed with beautiful furniture, kayaks and an airplane all built by Keith. Keith is survived by his children, Jenae (Stephen) Westhoff of Escalante, Utah, Lorilee (Craig) Rawlins of Smithfield, Utah, Caralyn (Christopher) Koplin of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dallin Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah, 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, Joyce (Blaine) Wilson, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law of Santa Clara, Utah, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Darrell Carter Smith and all his siblings. The family would like to thank all the Zions Way Hospice staff for their years of service, particularly Michelle. Dad has life-long friends we would like to thank for their love and friendship. Thanks also go to the neighbors and friends who have helped dad and mom in their Ivins neighborhood. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in dad’s honor and plan on attending the Celebration of Life to be held at 04:00 PM, Friday, August 25th, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel at 2301 East Bengal Blvd, SLC UT. Keith will be interred at the Elysian Gardens Cemetery in Millcreek, Utah.
