Marian Lister Slack

Marian Lister Slack, age 81, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, December 12, 2014, and joined her sweetheart Carlyle in their heavenly home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and will be deeply missed. Marian was born August 4, 1933, to Marion Boyd Lister and Lola Smith Lister in Panguitch, Utah. She married Carlyle E. Slack on September 9, 1950; later solemnized in the St. George Temple April 17, 1959. Prior to Carlyle’s death in October, 2010, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with five children. She loved being with her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. While her health allowed, she was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and greatly enjoyed her church callings. Marian had a very artistic nature and greatly enjoyed most arts and crafts – nearly everyone she knew benefited in some way from her crocheting, needlework, ceramics and painting skills. After retiring from Hill Air Force Base, she and Carlyle relocated to his childhood home of Toquerville, Utah, where she resided for the past 18 years. After Carlyle’s death she continued to reside in Toquerville with her daughter, Susan. We would like to thank the special neighbors and friends who became surrogate family in the years following their relocation to the area. She is survived by 3 children; daughter Susan (Craig) Nielsen of Toquerville/Sunset Utah; sons, Ellis (Marie) Slack and David (Sue) Slack of Salt Lake City, Utah; 11 grandchildren Ellen O’Shea, Carl Gardner, Lola Heath, Dustin Slack, Misty Wittke, Tasha Slack, Angela Hendrickson, Jacob Slack, Rose Slack, Jeff Slack; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; sisters Sandy Thomas and DeeAnn Walker and brothers, Fred Lister and Clark Lister. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carlyle and their daughters, Ellen Slack and Marie Beasley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Toquerville 1st Ward Chapel. There will be a viewing at the church on Thursday morning from 10:00 - 10:30 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Toquerville Cemetery immediately following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to the American Diabetes Association to fund critical research for those living with diabetes.
