Mirriam Leavitt Lester Jennings

Mirriam Leavitt Lester Jennings, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great, grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 19, 2025. Mirriam was born in Mesquite, Nevada on October 29, 1933, to Glen and Rachel Leavitt. She was one of ten siblings. After her family moved to Las Vegas, Mirriam attended Las Vegas High School and worked at the Bright Spot as a car hop. She met Frank Lester while working at the Askew restaurant. She eloped with Frank Ray Lester and they were married on July 18, 1951, in Kingman, Arizona. After she married Frank, they lived in Las Vegas until 1963 when they moved to St. George. They moved to St. George so their children could grow up in a smaller town. Frank and Mirriam had four children, Gwen, Lori, Scott, and Lucinda. Mirriam’s husband Frank passed away in 1987. Mirriam re-married to Royce Jennings in 1991. She had 28 grandchildren, 68 great grandchildren and 9 great, great, grandchildren. Mirriam’s family was her greatest love in life. She remembered names, birthdays, and details about every single one of her descendants. She loved her church and held multiple positions in her church including: primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, and young women’s leader. She was also the stake and ward roadshow coordinator. Mirriam was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints her entire life and was married in their temple to her husband Frank. Mirriam was always involved in her kids' school activities and spent much of her life shuttling her kids and their friends around for school events. Her kids’ friends called her Aunt Myrn, because she was like a relative instead of their friends' mom. She always had something funny and clever to say and was just like one of the gang. She loved her siblings and was very close to all of them. They would get together frequently to laugh, sing and dance together. Mirriam loved to sing and would sing old time songs with her siblings and loved to sing along while her son played the guitar, or her daughter played the piano. She lost one of her closest sisters (Twyla) almost 50 years ago and has missed her, her entire life. Mirriam was one of the last surviving of her siblings, and was proceeded in death by Lynn Leavitt, Glenna Conger, Ramola Fitzgerald, Irene Campbell, Benny Leavitt, Ken Leavitt and Twyla Wilson. She is now reunited with all of her best friends. Her two siblings still living are Patsy Metler and Jack Leavitt. She is also survived by her four children and their spouses: Gwen Farley (Brady), Lori Wood (Lyle), Scott Lester (Collette) and Lucinda Ross. You are invited to join us for a celebration of her life on April 12, 2025. Family visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:30, with the service starting at 1:00 pm. It will be held in the La Verkin chapel located at 70 South 300 West. Interment will be at the La Verkin Cemetery immediately following the service. There will be a luncheon for family and those traveling provided by the La Verkin First Ward Relief Society immediately following the interment.
