Necia Marie Lee Sorensen

Necia Marie Lee Sorensen peacefully returned to the arms of her sweetheart on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at her home in St. George, Utah. She made it clear a few days prior that she did not want to celebrate another birthday in this realm. She got her wish, passing away the day before her 85th birthday. Necia was born December 11, 1937, in Richfield, Utah, to Noble and Zona Madsen Lee. She grew up in Monroe, UT, and graduated with South Sevier High School Class of 1956. She attended college at Utah State University where she met the love of her life, Alma Don Sorensen. After an 18 month courtship, they married on June 5, 1959, in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they raised six children: Jonathan, David, Matthew, Kathryn, Cynthia, and Necia Ruth "Ruthie". They lived in several Utah locations, including Spanish Fork, Provo Canyon, Orem, and St. George. They also spent time being snowbirds all over the West. Necia had the voice of a songbird and sang with various choirs throughout her life. While she and Don lived in Illinois and Indiana for his graduate programs, she helped support the family by performing as a soloist with an accompanying orchestra. She sang at many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. She enjoyed performing at Rancho Casa Blanca's productions in Indio, CA when she and Don lived there after his retirement. Necia was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She converted at 18 years old and loved to share her conversion story. Her testimony was important to her. She loved to attend the temple. Church hymns were some of her favorite vocal pieces to perform. Necia had a contagious laugh and an incredible sense of humor. She enjoyed staying connected to family and friends by letters and by phone. She endeared herself to her caregivers and considered them family. She loved mermaids, seals, and everything purple. Necia was preceded in death by her husband, Don; son, Jonathan; daughter, Ruthie; brother, Talmage Lee. She is survived by her children: Dave (Susie) Sorensen, Matthew Sorensen, Kate (Mark) Allen, and Cynthia Hunter; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Wallace. According to her wishes, Necia donated her body to medical science and was cremated. The family wishes to thank The Retreat at Sunriver, Southern Comfort Care, Applegate Homecare and Physical Therapy, and Zions Way Homecare and Hospice for the loving care provided to Necia.
