Ruth Eliza Benson

Ruth Eliza Davidson Williams Benson, 94 and 1/2, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2025, from congestive heart failure at her home in Hurricane, Utah, surrounded by her loving children. Born in 1930 in Los Angeles, California, Ruth’s childhood was filled with family, friends, and FUN! She cherished outdoor adventures, often shirking indoor chores to spend every spare moment playing or exploring, especially at the beach and in the Pacific waters. At fifteen, Ruth began working at a department store, igniting a lifelong passion for hard work that led to several years of employment at the LA Times. She pursued an education at Glendale Community College with dreams of becoming an air hostess, but her path soon turned to marriage and motherhood, welcoming four children. In 1974, at age 44, Ruth met her soulmate, Clare Benson. Together, they settled in Canyon Country, California, building a joy-filled life. Upon retirement, the couple moved to Bloomington Hills, Utah, where they found a supportive community and shared a love for golf, creating cherished memories on the fairways of southern Utah. After Clare’s passing, Ruth devoted her time to her loved ones, delighting in moments with her children and sprawling family of descendants. A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ruth’s faith shone through her final moments, reflecting a lifetime of dedication. She was preceded in death by her parents, older brother, stepson, and husband, Clare Raymond Benson. Ruth is survived by her children: Kathy (Monte) McKeon, Candy Skapple, Don (Sallie) Williams, Robyn (Brent) Martin, and Tela Benson; twenty-five grandchildren; eighty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the members and leaders of the Hurricane 29th Ward and Desert Haven Hospice for their exceptional care during Ruth’s final weeks. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ruth’s life on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Sky Mt. Chapel, 452 N. 2600 W., Hurricane, Utah 84737.
