Steven Yamane

Steven Yamane, age 83, of Hurricane, UT, passed away on April 14, 2026. Born on May 25, 1942, in Dinuba, CA, to Henry and Doris Yamane, Steven had an innate love for people from his earliest years. Eternally cheerful, with a contagious laugh and smile that consumed his entire face, he drew people to him. In high school he was talented in a variety of sports and involved in many clubs. His endless curiosity shaped his appreciation for art, music, and nature. He was never shy. He could talk to anyone, often working his way around any room until he made a connection with everyone in it. He proudly served in the United States Army for two years before building a successful career owning and operating Yamane Greenhouses. He worked in the nursery business for over 30 years. After moving from San Diego to Hurricane, Utah, he spent his final years working at Ace Hardware. From the Army to nursery labor to the hardware store, he never treated any of it as a burden, approaching every role with pride, care, and enthusiasm. As he once put it, "If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right.” Outside of work, Steven found joy fishing, bodysurfing, and kayaking, even into his later years, surprising those around him with his eternal youth. He followed March Madness basketball with enthusiasm every year. He loved a good conspiracy theory. Few things delighted him more than good food, especially his mother's Japanese recipes from his childhood. His faith was the cornerstone of his life. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he prioritized his relationship with God, attended church faithfully, and magnified his callings through a lifetime of dedicated service. As ward mission leader, he tracked his hours carefully, finding that 13 hours per week was the magic number for making things happen. He gave those hours gladly. He made a point to be in the temple as much as possible, saying, “It's good to be high on the Lord.” Steven was patient and unhurried with his grandchildren, quick to notice their growth, caring less about what they accomplished than who they were becoming. He chose to be cheerful in every season of his life. We look forward to a happy reunion where we will get to catch waves together and hear his carefree laugh. Steven is survived by his loving wife, DeAnn; his children, Ian Yamane (Deborah) and Nadine Eisenkirch (Derek); his stepson, Matthew Rodney; his grandchildren, Chandler Yamane (Katie), Ashley Steffen (Josh), Gentry Keech (MacKay), Devon Yamane, Ethan Eisenkirch, Dylan Eisenkirch, and Logan Eisenkirch; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, JoAnn Yamada (Ed) and Sanaye Doi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kumi Yamane, and his brother, Lawrence Yamane. A memorial service will be held on May 9, 2026, at 12:00 noon at 272 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. Burial will take place at the Fallbrook Masonic Cemetery on a date to be determined.
