Sulaeseina Mausali Autele

Sulaeseina Mausali Autele was born on January 7, 1935, in Ta’u, on Manua island in American Samoa. She was the 3rd child out of 14 siblings. She attended grade school in Manua and finished 3rd grade after which she assumed full time daily responsibilities at home for a busy large family. She met her future husband, Mulivai U. Autele at age 18 in Manua. They were married in Manua on September 17, 1854. After several years, they moved to Tutuila Island in American Samoa, where they raised a large family of 9 children. In 1973, Sula and her family moved to Laie, Oahu, Hawaii. Sula was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1976 along with her daughter and a few sons. She was sealed to her family in 1984 in the Laie, Hawaii Temple. Sula relocated to Hauula, Oahu in 1979. After Mulivai retired in 1993, She moved to Miliani in Oahu with her son Andrew’s family. In 1995, she moved briefly to Oceanside, CA to help care for her aging Mother, who passed away that same year. In 1997, due to the declining health of husband, Sula moved to Kearns, Utah with her daughter Autasia and her husband, Mark Hedquist. Mulivai passed away in August 1999. After his death, Sula traveled to Hawaii, California, and American Samoa annually to visit her growing family of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In 2011, Sula was diagnosed with Dementia. She continued to bring her family joy and traveled with her daughter and son in law including two celebrations of her life in 2011 and 2017 in Laie. Autasia, her daughter became her full-time caregiver in 2011 upon dementia diagnosis until her passing this summer. Sula was a true peacemaker, a superlative example of charity and Christlike love to not only her immediate family, but also to her extended family and all whom met her. She valued family above all else in her life. She was a Samoan medicine woman, skilled with providing massages and treatment to those that came asking for assistance. She loved to bake and was well known for making baking masterpieces for family and friends in addition to barbeque. Sula had a fun-loving personality and was always keeping things light with laughter. She was a hard-working home maker and made all that were around her feel comfortable. She was patient, kinds and loving to everyone she interacted with. She loved to play cards, marbles and attend her grandchildren’s sporting events. We truly will miss Sula and we will strive to emulate her perfect example of love, patience, and happy demeanor. She passed away early in the morning on July 31, 2024, with her daughter and son in law by her side, free of all the pain associated with dementia/alzheimers for about two decades. We know she is enjoying the reunion with her husband Mulivai, parents and loved ones on the other side of the veil. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 5, 2024, beginning at 8:30 am at the LDS Chapel on Manzanita Dr. in St. George, UT. Interment will take place at 3:30 p.m. at the Redwood Memorial Estates Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah.
