Thomas Jeffrey Kalma

Thomas Jeffrey Kalma, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather peacefully passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born on December 4, 1943, in New York City, New York to parents Joseph Frank Kalma and Anna Elizabeth Doelicke. He graduated from Granada Hills High School class of 1962 in the city of Los Angeles, California. He furthered his education by completing additional years of higher education. While serving the North Scottish Mission in Scotland, he met the love of his life, Alberta Mae Brynes. They were married and solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Los Angeles, California Temple on December 3, 1966. Tom had a lifelong love of serving his community and state as a Trooper for the Utah Highway Patrol, serving in the Vietnam War stationed in Korea, the Airforce Reserves, and the Utah National Guard while supporting his family, friends, and all he encountered. He continued to provide a friendly smile and conversation to everyone he came across. He will always be remembered for his “dad” sense of humor, smile, strength, and resilience along with having a passion to start conversations with everyone around him; to bring them a smile and a sense of comfort and joy. He is described as always being strong-minded, continually serving others, a loving devoted husband, and one to provide his own advice to family and friends. He had a love for cars, trucks, and SUV’s requiring the need to have a different vehicle every six months to show his wife and kids. Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many positions within the Church and had a love for serving in the temple. His faithful support of family and community will always be remembered. Tom is blessed with four amazing children, Preston Kalma (Susan), Dwayne Kalma (Lori), Roy Kalma (Tanya aka Kevin), and Nancy Sommers (Denny). Six beautiful grandchildren; Kylie, Kody, Kason, Toby, Kayla, Tabatha; three great grandchildren; Kennedy, Aubree, Anastasia. He is survived by his sister – JoAnn Hagans (Don). He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife Alberta Mae Kalma, his parents, Jospeh Frank Kalma and Anna Elizabeth Doelicke, and his sister Kelly (Roberta) McPherson (Bill). Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at River Ridge Ward, located at 912 South 1740 East, St. George, Utah. Friends and family are invited to join us for the viewing Friday Morning October 27, 2023, from 9:00-11:00 a.m. and the funeral service will be held from 11:00-11:45am, both at the same location. Interment will take place in the Tonaquint Cemetery following the Funeral Service.
