Velma Lynn Thompson Carter

Velma Lynn Thompson Carter returned to her heavenly family on March 10, 2022. She was welcomed home by her angel, Benjamin Thompson, with loving arms. Vel was born on March 28, 1951, to Hubert and Virginia Thompson in Blackfoot, ID. She spent most of her life in Bountiful, Utah with her parents and 5 siblings. She was proud to have worked for Mountain Bell and then being a wife and mother. Ben was born on June 28, 1976. Nothing made her prouder than being his mother. She championed his successes and cherished his family. The most profound loss of her life was losing him. For 12 years Ben has watched over her from above and we are sure that they are once again together. Vel married Lee Carter on August 6, 1986 and invited in a whole new brood of Lee’s children. She loved all seven of his children and their families. Once they married, their adventures began and together they moved 36 times and lived in four states. Lee always had an eye for adventure and Vel always supported the journey. Lee loved her dearly and will miss her every day. Vel was loved by so many. She cherished her special friendships with family and those she “adopted” throughout her life. Vel was a proud Gold Star mother and supported their cause every day. She loved to crochet and would give away blankets, purses, and potholders every holiday. Nobody who knows Vel could think of her without thinking of her caramels. We all looked forward to this special treat that took so much time and effort for her to make. She gave them out for over 40 years…and none of us have the recipe. She loved her fur babies and would keep all of us updated on their comings and goings. We always looked forward to seeing what she had done for them at the groomers. It seemed that every few weeks there was a new cute photo posted of one of them wearing a new outfit! We will miss her pet shenanigans. Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and held so dear. Services will be held on March 26th from 3-5pm at 3495 West 4850 South Taylorsville, Utah 84129. We invite those who loved Vel to join us and share their stories of her with her family and friends.
