Alan Robert Jensen

March 1, 1955 - November 20, 2020

Alan Robert Jensen beloved husband, son, father and brother passed away on November 20th in Springdale Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 1, 1955, to Robert Max Jensen and Elizabeth Syphus Jensen. He married JoNell Maher in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 13th, 1978. Throughout his entire life Alan loved the outdoors, and would go to great lengths to experience the beauty of nature. He excelled at skiing, rock-climbing, canyoneering, and mountain biking. He spent much of his life backpacking in the Utah wilderness and exploring diverse and remote outdoor destinations with his friends and family. He was a loyal and sensitive friend to all who knew him. He loved talking about music and having deep discussions about religion and philosophy, often using his keen wit to liven a conversation. He was politically active, advocating for causes he believed in and serving in civic roles in his communities. Alan was also a gifted writer. He authored many articles and op-ed opinion pieces for various newspapers. Alan went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in the Geneva Switzerland Mission. He became fluent in speaking French and many thought that he was a native speaker. His mission experience gave him a deep love for the people and cultures of Europe that served as a foundation for the rest of his life. He is survived by: his wife JoNell; and son Christopher; as well as his siblings BettyAnn, Carol, Mark, Jim, Dave, Joe, Jean and John. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Elizabeth (Betty). Services will be held Monday, November 30th for immediate family at 11:00 a.m. A graveside service for extended family and friends be held the same day at 2:00 p.m. at Tonaquint Cemetery in St George Utah.
