May 3, 1959 - September 18, 2018
Enterprise, UT—Duane Gunnar Wallin, age 59, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 18, 2018. He met his eternal companion, Caroline Ferguson, in Centerville, UT, and was married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on May 16, 1986. Duane grew up in Salt Lake City where he went to Brighton High School. He played his favorite sport basketball on the varsity level and continued playing collegiate ball at Snow College and BYU-Hawaii. In his words, “He never saw a shot he didn’t like.” He was an enthusiastic sports fan/participant (Go Enterprise Wolves, BYU Cougars, Philadelphia Eagles, Utah Jazz, and LA Dodgers)! He served a faithful two-year mission to the people of Philadelphia, PA., and continued to be a devoted LDS Church member throughout his life. Duane’s real and abiding passions were his family and friends, especially his 13 grandchildren. He loved family vacations and any chance he had to be with the ones he loved. Duane was able to coach each of his children in one capacity or another providing that one-on-one time that will truly be cherished forever. He spent most of his working life as a Severe Special Education Teacher at Enterprise High with various coaching positions in basketball, football, softball, and track. He was a major contributor to the Enterprise community; coaching, teaching, and/or impacting thousands of lives. He has been known by his large stature—a big teddy bear with a heart of gold. Duane is survived by: his wife, Caroline; his children, Adam (Felicia) of Ivins, UT, Amanda (McKay) Jones of Enterprise, UT, Samantha (Scott) Toomey of Enterprise, UT, and Isaac of Enterprise, UT; grandchildren Aubrey, AJ, Tallon, Dayne, Korbyn, Joslyn, Carter, Baylee, Owen, Camille, Ellie, and Stockton; parents, Rune and MelvaRene Wallin of Salt Lake City, UT; siblings, Gary (Faith) of South Jordan, UT, Kathryn of Salt Lake City, UT, Nancy (Gene) Smith of Maineville, OH. Duane is preceded in death by: his wife’s parents, Adrian and Beverly Ferguson; his brother, Bryan; and his granddaughter, Hadlee Jones. The family would like to thank his Doctors and the medical professionals who assisted in his care, past/present students and athletes, faculty/staff at Enterprise High School, most importantly Friends and Family, and nameless others for all the kindness and devotion shown at such a difficult time. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:00 PM at the Enterprise Stake Center, 80 Center Street, in Enterprise, UT.
