March 7, 1942 - November 11, 2021
Frederick Maxwell McLellan, 79, passed away of a lingering illness early in the morning on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2021, at home in La Verkin, Utah. He was born at home during a bombing raid over Aberdeen, Scotland, on the 7th of March, 1942. His father, Frederick Marsden McLellan, was away in Egypt, driving a tanker during World War II. His mother was Henrietta Maxwell. Fred married Juanita Webb on August 5, 2000 in Centerville, Utah. They were later sealed in the London, England temple in 2004. Fred spent his young childhood days in Aberdeen. He remembers spending summers on a “postage stamp” size patch of sandy beach on the North Sea with his friends. In the winter, he would “sledge” down the hill on 234 Victoria Road with his friends. They always had a look out for cars. He was educated in Aberdeen schools and Mancial College, where he completed his courses in engineering. His dream was to be an engineer at sea like his grandfather. This was attained after he served 6 years in the British Army. While in the Army, he played the clarinet and percussion in the Gordon Highlands Marching Military Band. History and genealogy were his favorite things to do. Being in the British Merchant Navy for 19 years, he traveled to nearly every country on the globe except North Korea and China. He met people from all walks of life until his ship was hit by a missile in the Falklands and he was severely injured. Fred was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on March 22, 1998. He loved the church and the people and loved doing good for all. Fred is survived by his wife, Juanita, of La Verkin; his children: Kathy, Francis, Sarah, Jennifer (Gary), Christopher, and Claire (Colin), all of England; his stepchildren: Misty (Dave), Dave (Christine), Brian (Julie), Marcia (Gary), and Shauna (Kevin); his brother Donald, of Scotland, many grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Anne Whyte; and daughter, Angela. The family would like to thank the Suntree Hospice team, led by Lacy Evans & Trinity and especially Dr. Tyler Hansen. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 23, 2021, with the viewing from 9:30-10:45 and the service at 11:00. Internment will be held at the La Verkin City cemetery. British military honors will be acknowledged by bag pipes, played by Andy Duncan.
