Lee McCoy

Hurricane, Utah resident, Lee McCoy, 82, passed away on October 6, 2023, in his home with his family around him. He was born July 25, 1941, in Milford, Utah, to William and Violet McCoy and later raised by his mother and Bernie Rawlins. He married Mary Jill Hicks in Yuma, Arizona, on May 12, 1973. Lee was a paratrooper in the army, and an officer and sergeant for the Arizona Highway Patrol. He thought of his work as 90% service and 10% police work. Later he taught democratic policing in Bosnia and Iraq. He and his wife, Jill, served a humanitarian mission in Moscow, Russia, where through the church they helped orphanages, veterans, hospitals, and senior homes receive much needed supplies. He was creative, loved the outdoors, had the best sense of humor, and had a way of turning a simple day into an adventure. The Gospel of Jesus Christ meant everything to Lee. He served in most church callings, was an amazing scout master and a loving Bishop. Lee is survived by: his wife, Jill McCoy; children Tiffany (Kendall) Shumway of Moreno Valley, California; Kelli (Rick) Beatty of Hurricane, Utah; Camille (Sean) Pattee of Manitowoc, Wisconsin; Kristi Andersen of Ogden, Utah; Lee (Melanie) McCoy of Boston, Massachusetts; Amber (Darin) Larson of Hurricane, Utah; Summer Brooke Lee of Hurricane, Utah; 30 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; his sister Ruth Roberson and brother Steve Rawlins. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1:00 PM at the Hurricane, Utah, North Stake Center located at 272 South 700 West, Hurricane, Utah. The viewing will be held that morning at 11:00 AM at the same location. Interment will be held at the Hurricane City Cemetery. Military honors provided by the Army National Guard and the American Legion.
