Peter Scott Marcusen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Peter Scott Marcusen, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away at his home in Washington, Utah, on July 17, 2022. He was cared for the past 5 years by his devoted wife of 42 years, Carol Pyper Marcusen. We rejoice in our knowledge of a joyous reunion as he returns home to his Heavenly Father, his parents, his grandson – Miles Scott Calder, and his mother-in-law – Ila Pyper who lived in his home for 27 years. Scott was born on July 13, 1950 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to his loving parents, Peter Boyd and Maxine Cameron Marcusen. Growing up in the Rose Park area of Salt Lake City, Utah, Scott found great joy in scouting. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14 and continued to be a dedicated scout enthusiast throughout his life. He helped many young boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. While attending West High School in Salt Lake City, he served as the head cheerleader for the Class of 1968 and was selected to attend Boys State. After graduation, Scott entered military service in the United States Army as an avionics mechanic. He took a leave from the military to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northwestern States. Upon his return, he continued his military service with the Utah Air Guard in Salt Lake City. Scott also attended the University of Utah and worked as an emergency medical technician. After obtaining a degree in Sociology, he continued his education at Weber State University where he graduated in electrical engineering. Scott was a lifetime learner and went on to complete additional higher education in the military. Everything Scott put his hand to succeeded. While both were attending the University of Utah, Scott and Carol met and were later married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 8, 1980. They raised their two daughters, Sarah and Kristen, in Hacienda Heights, California, where Scott worked as an electrical engineer for Northrop Grumman Corporation. He “orchestrated and led the team modifying the B-2 target acquisition radar software and integrating the first ‘generic’ GPS guided smart bomb.” During this time, he also served in numerous diverse positions and ranks finishing as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserve. He retired from military service on March 1, 2008. He served a total of 40 years in the United States Military. He retired from Northrop Grumman Corporation after 31 years in 2016. Scott never missed an opportunity to serve others. If there was a need, he was there to fulfill it. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life and served in various church leadership callings including a devoted Home Teacher, Young Men’s President, Scout Master, Gospel Doctrine Instructor, and as a counselor in several Bishoprics. Scott is survived by his wife, Carol, his daughter Sarah Marcusen Calder (Drew) and their two children Sofi and Lachlan, and daughter Kristen Marcusen; sisters Nancy Marcusen, Linda Peterson (Gary), Kris Homma (Dave), Diana Haslam (Craig), and brother Thomas Marcusen (Marie). Scott was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, Joseph D. Pyper Jr. and Ila Westover Pyper. The family offers a special debt of gratitude to all of his caregivers from Applegate Hospice and A Gentle Touch Home Care. A viewing will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 7-8:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah, 1316 S. 400 E. Ste. A-6 St. George, Utah. A graveside will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at the Washington City Cemetery, 500 Parkview Drive Washington, Utah.
