Thell W Gubler
June 28, 1929 - April 10, 2022
Thell was born June 28, 1929, in La Verkin, Utah. His parents were Joseph Edward Gubler (Ed) & Thora Wilson Gubler and was the 4th of 7 children. Dad told us that he was sick as an infant and could not keep any any type of milk down. The Doctor told his parents many times that he did not think he would live thru the night. They finally came up with a formula that he was able to keep down. 92 plus years and here we are! Dad loved growing up in La Verkin with so many of his cousins and friends. He was good in sports and excelled as a pitcher. Even after he was married, he would pitch for Dixie College when he was in town even though he never attended college. While going to Hurricane High School he met and fell completely in love with Elaine Nyborg. They married on July 15, 1947. They are the parents of 7 children: Kerry (Patricia), Shauna (Dave), Kenneth (Leslie), Tyler (MaryDawn), Jason (Colleen), Stefanie (Troy), & Cory (Amy). They have 38 grandchildren, 94 great grandchildren (with at least 2 on the way), & 2 great great grandchildren. Dad served in many callings in the church. He served in the La Verkin Bishopric, the La Verkin Stake Presidency, the High Council in the Hurricane Stake, and the Dixie College YSA Stake. He and Mom served missions at the St George Cannery, Deseret Industries, and the Iowa, Des Moines Mission. Dad was a very positive man with a wonderful sense of humor although Mom didn’t always appreciate all of it. The Deer Hunt and opening day of Fishing Season were times we all looked forward to. He loved golf and all his friends that he golfed with. Everyone wanted to be in his group as he would keep things lively. All his golf buddies have their own unique “Thell” stories. He was grateful to everyone who did anything for he and Mom. He never forgot to say, “Thank You” and usually said that he loved them when they left. We will miss him saying how special we were, what a blessing we were to mom and him, how proud mom and he were to be our parents, how he could not believe how lucky he was to marry mom, how lucky mom was, how grateful he was for the church. He and Mom were married for over 73 years and had a very good life together. Dad missed Mom very much after she passed away a year and a half ago. Every day Dad would say he wished Mom would come and get him. He would say, “now would not be too soon.” He missed his parents and siblings, especially his brother Lyman and Uncle Reed. Dad was so happy when his sister Gail would come visit him, and he always told her how beautiful she was and that he loved her. We are grateful for his example in our lives. We are grateful for the wonderful care he received from Sun Tree as well as the short time at the Beehive Home in Hurricane. Services will be at the La Verkin Stake Center Monday the 18th of April. There will be a viewing from 9:30am until 10:45am. The funeral will begin at 11:00 am with the internment in the La Verkin Cemetery.
