May 22, 1934 - August 17, 2020
Woodruff D (Woody) Sproul was residing in St. George Utah at the time of his passing on August 17th, 2020. He was 86 years old. Woody was born May 22, 1934 to John Denzil Sproul and Gwendolyn Nisson in Washington City, Utah. He married the love of his life, Pennie Rae (Pace) Sproul, on June 4, 1954 in the St. George LDS Temple. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Henderson, Nevada, where they started their family and their long, married life together. Their eldest son, Kurt Woodruff Sproul, was born while they were living in Nevada. After relocating back to St. George, their second and third sons, Jeffrey Pace Sproul and Scott Douglas Sproul, respectively, were born . Their only daughter, Jodi (Sproul) Van Cleve, was brought into this world shortly after the family relocated to Las Vegas, where Woody and Pennie raised their family and where Woody started his business of owning a few service stations around town. Always looking for new adventures, he put himself through barber school and did barbering for quite a few years before becoming a real estate broker and the owner of a construction company. He loved to work but thoroughly enjoyed retirement. Retirement brought him back to Southern Utah, where he lived out the rest of his life enjoying his home at the family ranch in Central Utah and traveling back and forth to their beautiful casita beach house in San Felipe, Mexico. Woody loved gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was always keeping himself busy with projects and jobs around the ranch…from raising cattle to stringing barbed wire fencing. He always knew how to fix anything and could solve any problem. He is survived by his wife, Pennie Rae Sproul; his children Kurt Woodruff Sproul; Jeffrey Pace Sproul; Scott Douglas Sproul; and Jodi Claire Van Cleve; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; his brother, Edward Sproul; and his sister, Jeannie Reich. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Douglas Sproul; Leatrice Johnson; Fern Sproul; Gwen Pierce; and Wilburn Sproul. How do you say good-bye to a guy like Woody? You don’t! He’s not going anywhere; he’s hanging around waiting for Pennie. Even then, there will be no formal good-bye---no service nor ceremony---at the request of Woody and Pennie. Both have said that they would only say “good bye” once…at that time when their ashes will be mixed together and scattered about places they both love. At that time, those they leave behind will be left to celebrate their lives while resting in the knowledge that, to quote Woody & Pennie, “what a great joy and love you and yours have brought into our lives”. We will love you always, Love each other…… Dad and Mom” Family and friends are invited to share their condolences online at SerenityStG.com. In lieu of flowers, please just share your love with your family and friends.
