–

Washington, Utah

Alan Robert Gowans, 89, of St. George, Utah, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2026, with his beloved wife of 67 years by his side.

Born in Tooele, Utah, and raised in Salt Lake City, Al graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in electrical engineering. It was there that he met his wife, LuAnn, beginning a lifelong partnership and the next chapter of his life. He spent his entire professional career at Boeing, ultimately retiring as Director of Compensation for the Defense and Space Division.

Following retirement, Al and LuAnn relocated to sunny St. George, where he enjoyed pursuing his passion for golf alongside dear friends and family. Together, he and LuAnn explored the beauty of the Desert Southwest, sharing adventures and countless memories with his best friend and lifelong companion—his wife.

Al will always be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering desire to do what was right. He was a man of exceptional loyalty, honesty, and integrity. His children are proud to carry forward the morals and values he instilled in them, lessons that continue to guide their lives today. Simply put, Al was a “good man.”

Al is survived by his loving wife, LuAnn Reeves Gowans; his children, Laura Gowans and Pamela (Steve) Hopkins; his grandchildren, Stephen (Haley) Hopkins and Hayley (Connor) Spahman; and his siblings, Kathryn Long, Sherry (Dick) Miller, and Bill Gowans. He was preceded in death by his parents Lydia and Robert N Gowans.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to honor Al’s memory to make a contribution to the MDS Foundation in support of research and those affected by myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS).
