Blanca Elena Borrego

Blanca Elena Borrego passed away on January 11, 2026 in St George Utah. She was born on August 18, 1944 in Tamaulipas Mexico to Maria Elena Duarte and Salvador Borrego. She married Roque Laborin Quiroz in 1966 in the Los Angeles California Temple. Mom was raised in a town called Gomez Palacio in Durango Mexico. Later her family moved to a small town in southern Sonora Mexico called Navajoa. She was the 3rd out of 14 children. She loved going to school but was pulled out in the 4th grade to help her own mom raise the younger kids. This was a difficult thing for her but later in life she was able to go back to college in St George and get her Certified Nursing assistant license. Mom was a wonderful cook, a seamstress and one of the most resourceful women you could know. She and Dad immigrated to the US, and Dad went to BYU while mom focused entirely on raising her beloved children. She gave birth to her first two daughters in BellFlower, California, 3rd daughter in Phoenix, Arizona, son in Ogden, Utah and youngest son in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mom raised her children in Davis and Washington Counties, Utah as well as Colonia Juarez Mexico. Mom was a constant presence throughout our lives. After her marriage to Rocky, mom would persevere raising children in a foreign culture. She didn’t speak the language, and didn’t have any family with her as she raised her little ones. Her father and siblings were her best friends and Dad would pack up the family to drive down to Mexico to see our Aunts, Uncles and cousins at least once a year. Visiting family in Mexico was always a celebration. It was almost like the town had a parade when we arrived, since mom's paternal family was so large. Family and their neighbors would gather on the sides of the road leading into town to welcome us. Blanca changed her name to Blanch in the 90’s, and has been known as Blanch by co-workers and friends since then. Mom worked at K-mart, cashier at Deseret Industries then for IHC medical center in St George. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and through the 1980’s always held a calling in the nursery because that’s where she told the Bishop she would serve (no matter where we lived). Mom had a quick and witty sense of humor. She always marched to the beat of her own drum and anyone who knows her knows exactly what that entailed. Mom loved the USA and taught us to be patriots and assimilate to American culture entirely. She spoke her own made-up version of Spanglish that only those close to her understood well. Blanca is survived by her children Ileen, Elisa (Manuel), Mary (Josh), Hector ‘Rene’ (Jessica), and Thomas (Sarah). Her 10 grandchildren TJ, Christopher, Jasmine, Andrew, Timothy, Amanda, Caden, Alina, Abigail and Annelise and 9 great-grandchildren. Blanca was preceded in death by her husband Rocky in July 2019 and by her brothers Salvador, Jesus and youngest sister Magdalena. The family would like to thank the wonderful care-givers at Southgate Memory Care. Subsequent burial at 2:00 pm at Tonaquint Cemetery.
