Brett Smith

Our loving, wonderful husband and father passed away on December 1st after a brave battle with cancer. He fought the good fight and now can play a good game of heavenly golf or tennis with his dad Glen or wrap his arms around his mom Jan, whom he loved so much. Brett's world was his family. He worked hard every day of his life to take care of his wife and children, and any spare time he had was spent playing games or watching movies with his family. When he wasn't hanging out with his wife and children, he was playing tennis with his brothers and friends. His siblings were his best friends, and his bond with them was incredible. He was a major history and theology nut with a passionate desire to learn truth wherever he could find it. A collector of old coins, trinkets, and historical treasures, he loved any artifact which told an incredible story. With his mountains of books, you could always find him reading at least 3-4 books at a time. His work as a commercial appraiser had him traveling worldwide, and he found a special place in his heart for Alaska. He also loved Italy after serving a two-year mission and spoke fluent Italian. He was physically active- always playing tennis, golf, pickleball, or basketball. He loved Westerns, his white jeep, owls, foxes, pheasants, Foosball, and raisin cake. He was a master chef of crozy mozies and his mom's infamous chip dip. He never turned down the chance to watch a Clint Eastwood, James Bond, Arthur, or Jim Carrey movie. He loved spending time at Bear Lake with his family. He was always up for anything, whether shooting guns, hiking, fishing, or playing late-night games. He took up an interest in bird watching and spent many mornings with Tammy drinking their chai on the back porch and watching the birds happily eat their bird seed. He particularly loved the rare Orioles and made friends with an Oriole couple who would visit them often. He loved his wife and she loved him more than anything in the world, and the two shared a love and friendship that went over the fence, out of the park, to the moon and back again. Just as his children meant everything to him, he meant everything to his children. Each one shares at least a billion memories with him covered in nonstop laughter, tears, and a strong friendship that will last forever. To know Brett was to love him, and he will be missed by so many. Even the lady at Human Resources started bawling when she heard the news, and we haven't broken the news to the birds yet. He is survived by his wife Tammy, and his four children, Tara (Kim), Tyson, Lucy (Farren), and Brigette (Jordan). He is also survived by his siblings Craig, Debbie, Sandy, Greg, Mark, Nan, and their spouses. There will be a celebration of life on January 14th at his home in St. George.
