Carol Dawn Emery Memmott

Carol Dawn Emery Memmott passed peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at her residence in St. George, Utah. She was born June 3, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Wilford Newman Emery and Maxine Ella (Sly) Emery. She married Floyd Leroy Memmott on September 1, 1955, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Carol was named after a box of chocolates. When she was born her dad brought candy to the hospital for her mother. The name on the box was “Carol Dawn Chocolates.” Perhaps that explains why she loved chocolates so much. Throughout her life Carol was known for her outstanding secretarial skills, including “shorthand.” She worked for the FBI, Jordan School District, BYU, and the LDS church. She lived in Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Pleasant Grove, and St. George, Utah; Arvada and Grand Junction, Colorado; and Boise, Idaho. She and Floyd served an LDS mission to Winter Quarters Visitor Center in Nebraska. Carol loved the Lord and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, having served in every auxiliary. Her favorite calling was Primary chorister as she loved teaching songs to children. She was a very compassionate mother and grandmother. Her kids and grandkids would frequently hear her say, “Love the Lord. Obey your parents and you’ll grow up happy. Be true to yourself. Be good. Remember that I love you very much!” She also was an immaculate housekeeper and would always say, “When in doubt, throw it out.” In her later years, Carol learned to play the Native American flute. She’d often show up at neighbors’ doors and play them a tune to cheer or comfort them. At Spring Gardens Assisted Living Center where she lived her final years, she would play “Happy Birthday” to each resident on their birthday. Carol is survived by her husband Floyd Leroy Memmott; her four children: Kyle Memmott (Karla), Tori Bahoravitch (Timothy), Lance Memmott (Debra), and Jason Memmott (Melinda); 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Alvin Emery, Richard Emery, Dennis Emery and Mark Emery. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Wilford and Maxine Emery and her brother Jack Emery. Gratitude is expressed to the excellent staff at Spring Gardens Assisted Living, Enhabit Hospice, and Serenity Funeral Home of Southern Utah for their loving care of Carol and her family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 11:00 am at the Sunset 1st Ward chapel, 82 North Dixie Drive, St. George, UT 84770. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 9:30 am at the church. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 19 at 2:00 pm at American Fork City Cemetery, 26 W 600 N, American Fork, UT 84003.
