Clarence Samuel Reed

Clarence Samuel (Thompson) Reed passed away January 9, 2024, in Hurricane Utah. Clarence was born on May 25, 1943, in Salt Lake City Utah to Ardith and Lewis Thompson. Clarence preferred to be called Clare, but as a youth was known by Sammy. His parents divorced shortly into their marriage, his mother married Frank Reed who became his father and Clare took the last name Reed to honor the father who raised him. Clare met the love of his life Carolyn Jepson while walking down the street in Salt Lake City; he followed her to find out who she was. She was on her way to a church activity, so Clare started attending church to spend time with her. Clare married Carolyn Jepson on November 19, 1962, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were inseparable and were married 18 days shy of 60 years before she passed away. Clare and Carolyn had an enduring love, they were a wonderful example of what an eternal relationship could be. and showed their children what love looked like and instilled the importance of family. Clare loved to explore as a child, he had several adventures that could have become disastrous, but made for good stories. He was a fighter in spirit as well as physically and loved to tell of his exploites. He served in the ROTC in high school and thrived in the positions he earned. Clare was an artist in every sense of the word. He loved to sing and dance, paint, woodwork, and was an amazing leather crafter. He made many beautiful, tooled saddles over the years. Clare loved horses and had many over his lifetime. He taught his children to ride horses at a very young age and loved spending time riding in the hills, exploring. Clare took pride in becoming a master carpenter, he could picture a project in his mind and then create it. He was one of Southern Utah's best finish carpenters. He would often say there aren't any problems, only many solutions. Clare loved music, he loved to sing and dance, he had a beautiful singing voice. He would often serenade his sweetheart, and the two were known to break into song, it did not seem to matter where they were, or who was around, as they expressed their love through music. Two of Clare's favorite things to do were his Tarzan yell as well as his yodeling. Clare loved his Father in Heaven, teaching Gospel Doctrine and reading his scriptures which he called his “sticks”. He held many callings in the LDS church; his favorites were being a missionary at the church farm and at the family history center. He was so proud of his sons all going on missions as well as several of his grandchildren serving missions. Clare is survived by his brothers Clell, Monty, and Morris Reed. His children Chris (Sisy) Reed, daughter-in-law Cyndee (Shane) Reed, Cheli (Clint) Webb, Craig (Celeste) Reed, and Corinna (Chad) Magleby. Clare and Carolyn's posterity includes 30 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren with one more due next week. Clare was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kit, son Curtis (Shane) Reed, and his sweetheart Carolyn Jepson Reed. The family would like to thank Suntree Hospice for their devoted care. A viewing will be held Saturday, Jan 13, 2024, from 11:00am - 12:00 noon at the LDS chapel 658 West 1500 South Hurricane, UT. Private family burial and services will follow.
