Cynthia Leigh Moore

Cynthia Leigh Armstrong Moore, 50, of LaVerkin, UT, passed away at her home while in hospice care on July 15, 2016. Cynthia, who preferred to be called Cyndi, was born to Andrew William Armstrong and Julie Anne Hass in Dallas, TX, on July 21, 1965. Cyndi married her sweetheart Barry Scott Moore on May 12, 1989, in Bangor, ME. On May 11, l990, their marriage was solemnized in the Chicago, IL Temple. Barry and Cyndi were blessed with three wonderful children, Arissa and Wyatt (twins), and Andrew. Cyndi worked in medical services off and on throughout her adult life. While living in La Verkin she was affiliated with the Girl Scouts of America, CERT, and the Huntsman World Senior Games. From her earliest years Cyndi loved playing school sports, especially high school hockey. After moving to La Verkin with her family, she volunteered for many seasons as a coach and referee in local athletic events. One of the highlights of her life came when she teamed up with “Mothers Without Borders” in 2005, and then later that same year served with them on a humanitarian aid mission in Africa. While she was there she lived and worked in a remote AIDS striken village in Zambia, teaching medical skills to the mothers who came to her with their sick and dying babies. She surpassed herself as a writer by journaling the fight she and her team fought every day with little more than “a box of band aids” to curb an epidemic. Sealed with the love she felt for the mothers whose losses she cried for as if they had been her own, Cyndi’s “Africa journal” stands as a pure testimony of her “love of God and all men,” and her pioneer spirit. Her other accomplishments include a Young Womanhood Recognition Award, and Outstanding Girl Scout Leader Award. Cyndi was a loving wife and mother, and a first generation latter-day saint, who rarely let her frustrations with her failing health stop her from doing what she was born to do---help anyone at any time in any way she could. Add to that, Cyndi was a gifted photographer, diarist, and cook. Two of her favorite recipes were her Scottish Secret Breakfast Biscuits and her prize winning English toffee. Surviving are her husband, Barry Scott Moore, La Verkin, UT; a daughter, Arissa Julianne Dimond, Provo UT; two sons, Wyatt James Moore, Provo, UT, and Andrew William Moore, St. George, UT; a 3 month old grandson, Parker Dimond, Provo, UT; her father, Andrew William Armstrong and his wife Christine (Elliott), Palisade, CO; her mother, Julie Ann Hass Miller, Tahlequah, OK. Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the LaVerkin Stake Center, 481 Main, LaVerkin, UT. A visitation will be held at 10 a.m., prior to the services. Internment will take place at the LaVerkin cemetery.
