David Scott McNichol

David Scott McNichol was born in Toronto Canada on February 20 1965. On June 29, 2024 his wife was by his side when he went home to be with the Lord. He enjoyed life and put a smile on the faces of those around him. In his early years while living in California, he loved going to the beach and swam almost daily while soaking up the sun. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed running. He was a fan of the movies and often went to the matinees where he escaped to beautiful places and interesting people on the wide screen. He loved music and found great pleasure listening to his favorite artists from the 70’s and 80’s and also enjoyed Karaoke at his friendly neighborhood spots. You would always find him at his favorite coffee shop enjoying his specialty coffee and eating his favorite pumpkin spice loaf as he took time to relax. David was a deep caring person who was compassionate and took the sorrow of others to heart. He always made everyone feel welcomed and found kindness in others. He often told his family and friends to be forgiving and to love one another. The love of your life comes once in a lifetime and some people may not get that opportunity to meet that one special person but David found that person in his wife Pam. Their love was special and they had each other at hello. He not only embraced Pam but he also valued his relationship with his step daughter Kristine. From the first time David met Kristine, he stepped in an became her favorite fan and supported her and cheered her on as she competed in Special Olympics and was there for her whenever she needed him. His enlistment in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman was the beginning of a fulfilling career which was a stepping stone of what was yet to be. The military instilled in David stability, life skills and the love for his country. His last duty station was at Great Lakes Naval Base just north of Chicago and there he stayed until he pursued a career in law enforcement. He became a police officer in Lake Forest, Illinois and then eventually became a deputy sheriff with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office in Illinois. He loved his community and always went out of the way to make sure he did his job well. He was there for those that needed him the most and for those that didn’t have a voice. He was a spokesperson for the elderly and helped children in need make their dreams come true by participating in the Shop with a Cop Program. He was an advocate for Special Olympics and he encouraged his peers and the community to help raise awareness for Special Olympics by encouraging fundraisers and being part of the Special Olympic Games yearly. He also played a big part in the Cop on the Roof Special Olympics Fundraiser with Dunkin Donuts. After 20 years of serving the community David and his wife Pam retired and moved to their forever home in Mesquite, Nevada. As his illness progressed, David never gave up the fight and often encouraged others who were fighting alongside him with similar situations. His faith in the Lord grew and he always found time to read passages and scriptures from the Holy Bible which gave him courage that he was not alone. He often shared his readings with others hoping they too would get encouragement knowing that the Lord is there for them as well. David truly loved his family and God. His faith kept him going when things got tough. His wife Pam and his sister Susan were his biggest support during his illness. He will be missed by his wife Pam (Stivers) McNichol, step daughter Kristine, sister Susan Bakidis and her husband George Bakidis from Florida. They include nieces and nephew Anastasia Bakidis, Caroline Gibson, Angela Corona and Kevin Bakidis and their families that include two great-nieces Abigail and Sophia and a great-nephew Luke. His brother Phil McNichol and his family from Canada will miss David dearly. He will also be missed by numerous extended family members and friends. David is preceded in by death by his mother Daisy A. McNichol and his father Bruce F. McNichol. The family would like to thank Mesa View Hospice for the care that was cancer.
