Eileen R. Harding

Eileen R. Harding passed peacefully into the next life on March 20, 2025. Eileen was born on February 15, 1940, in Apia, Samoa to Charles and Anne Rivers. She spent her early years in the beautiful surroundings of Samoa and New Zealand. Eileen excelled in school, graduating as her class Valedictorian at St. Mary’s in Auckland, New Zealand. In 1958, Eileen married Roger Gull, in the Salt Lake Temple. Eileen and Roger traveled back to Samoa later that year, where Roger taught at the Church College of Western Samoa. Eileen gave birth to their first son – Kevin Gull in Apia in 1960. One-year later, Eileen and her small family moved to Lai’e, Hawaii and in 1962, their second son was born – Jeffrey Gull. Hawaii was truly “Paradise” for Eileen and her small family. Surrounded by her parents and her brother, Don Rivers, and her sister, Noue Wallwork, and their families – they thrived. Eileen worked for the Church College of Hawaii (now known as BYU-H) as an executive assistant to various vice presidents and presidents at the college. In 1976, Eileen moved to Provo to join Rog and her sons and begin a new life in Utah. Eileen worked as the Executive Assistant to Roger Billings at Billings Hydrogen in Provo. In later years, Eileen held similar successful positions at Cirrus Corp of Salt Lake City and Hewlett Packard. In 1980, Eileen and Roger divorced and in 1982, Eileen married Lynn Harding of Lehi, Utah. Mom would spend the next 30 years traveling with Lynn as they grew E&L Quarter Horses, training and showing horses all over the United States. On any given weekend you would find Mom grooming horses as she braided their manes and prepared them to be shown by Lynn. Eileen loved their friends that they made through these shows and the American Quarter Horse Association -- she considered them family. In 1995, Eileen accepted an executive position with her brother Don’s company -- E’OLA and moved themselves and E&L Quarter Horses to Hurricane, Utah. Again Mom thrived not only professionally but gained so many new friends and associations through E’OLA. She loved working with her family and friends. This is also when Mom gained her deep affection for corgis. She loved her dogs and could always be seen at the ranch followed by her 8 or 9 corgis running behind her. Some of the best and most fun memories of her grandchildren’s childhood come from their weekends spent at the ranch in Hurricane. Fond memories of Mom’s breakfasts (especially her homemade hot chocolate), rides on 4-wheelers, shooting guns, riding horses, cleaning stalls and just generally hanging out with Grandma Eileen and Grandpa Lynn will forever live on with them. Eileen is survived by her sister, Noue Wallwork (Curtis) – St. George, UT; her sons – Kevin Gull (Wendy) – Draper, UT, Jeffrey Gull (Susan) – Woodland Hills, UT and 9 grandchildren – Conlin Gull (Regan), Kennedy Knaras (Justin), Davis Gull (Annie), Shaylee Johnson (Jaden), Blakely Thorsen (Nick), Samantha Lusk (Jordan), Naomi Fullmer (Austin), Crosby Gull (Taylor), Talmage Gull and 13 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her stepchildren: Amy McBride (Robert), Heeth Harding (Abbey), Melony Larsen (Kris) and 12 grandchildren – Tyler McBride, Brock McBride (Jordyn), Katee McBride, Grady Harding, Payton Harding, Baylor Harding, Ryder Harding, Tag Harding (deceased), Knox Harding, McKay Larsen, Riley Larsen (Raven), Esdee Mitchell (Parker) and 3 great-grandchildren. Eileen is preceded in death by her husband: R. Lynn Harding; her parents – Charles R. and Anne Rivers; her brother Don Rivers and Don’s wife – Geraldine. We would like to thank the many caretakers at Spring Hollow Assisted Living, as well as the Hospice Services at CNS both in Orem, Utah for the wonderful care and kindness during these last few months of Mom’s life. Many thanks and love also go out to our many family and friends who would visit Mom especially in her last few years as her Alzheimer’s progressed. We are eternally grateful to a Mother who taught us through deed and example the importance of family – which we now find entwined in the very fabric of our collective and individual families. Eileen’s zest for life, her passion for family and friends will live on through us. Aloha, Mahalo and Tofa soifua – farewell for now, until we meet again. Funeral Services for Eileen will be on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel in Hurricane, UT – 642 North 2850 West, Hurricane, UT Viewing at 11:30 / Funeral Service at 1:00 PM and Interment at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
