Jack Rae Eicks

Jack Rae Eicks, 77, passed away in the early morning hours of May 8, 2024, after suffering for many years with COPD. He was born on December 7, 1946, the only child of Edward Rae and Ruby Mae Whatley Eicks (both deceased). Jack grew up and attended school in Douglas, Arizona, graduating high school in 1966. Jack’s grandparents were Franz and Gertie Eicks, who owned the first plumbing company in Douglas, Arizona, Eicks Plumbing. He grew up in the rodeo business and was raised on a ranch since his father, Edward was a rancher and mother Ruby Mae was a rodeo queen. Jack entered his first rodeo at the age of 5 and was hooked! At 35 Jack was a member of the SLC Buckaroos, a Salt Lake City Rodeo team. He rodeoed well into his forties, riding broncs and bareback in his younger years, then later competed in calf roping, team roping, and steer wrestling. In his early years, Jack married Kay Huddleston and later divorced. Later, he married Kathy Gray; they had one daughter named Adrian Kay who later passed away from lupus. They divorced. Jack then married Rhonda Benson and had one son named Shane Todd Eicks. They divorced. In the early 90’s, Jack met Rhea Burt at the Kanarraville Dance – he followed her home and never left. Jack and Rhea were life and dancing companions for thirty-two years. During that time, Jack worked in landscaping for Brad Williams and as a painter for Rosenberg Painting. Friends of Jack remember him as tough, opinionated and strong-willed, a “real” cowboy. In his later years you’d find him watching the Rodeo Channel or sitting on the porch, caring for his cats and watching the neighbors drive by. Jack is survived by his son Shane and Rhea, his companion of many years. His poor health in his later years limited his ability to do the things that he loved. Now Jack can breathe freely and hunt “heads” all day! Rest in Peace, Jack! A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
