Janelle Adelia Tobler

–

St George, Utah

Janelle Adelia Tobler, age fifty-one, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at St. George Regional Hospital, in the aftermath of a heart attack on July 11. She was born on July 19, 1974, in Los Angeles, California, to Ernest Allen Tobler and Esther Miriam Earl. The youngest of five children, Janelle is survived by her three brothers: Kelton, Brandon, and Devon Tobler. In January 2024, Janelle’s sister, Robin Tobler, preceded her in death. Despite constant pain caused by multiple serious health conditions, Janelle’s sweet and sunny disposition blessed everyone who knew her. She was a charitable and empathic woman who loved, befriended, and encouraged many people wherever she went. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, arts and crafts (particularly crochet, including soft beanies for premature infants and cancer patients), and creative writing (especially poetry). A self-published collection of thirty poems by Janelle will be forthcoming. Beginning with scoliosis surgery at age twelve, Janelle endured many, many surgeries and procedures. Throughout her life, she suffered from hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and related afflictions, which caused chronic pain, problems with joints and tissues, and fatigue. She also battled diabetes and polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), which took the lives of her sister and mother. She received a kidney transplant in 2005, which extended her life by over twenty-one years, and she used that time to do good to those within her reach. As the cherry on top of her physical ailments, she withstood the challenges of mental illness, including debilitating anxiety and depression, yet she did her best to be hopeful and purposeful. She also had a sixth finger on her right hand — no, wait, that was a crochet hook. Through it all, she kept her sense of humor. Janelle grew up in Cerritos, California, where her mother died in 1995. In the years surrounding 2007, first Janelle’s niece Sarah Weeden, then Janelle with her father and sister, and finally her brother Devon moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where her father died in 2015. Janelle lived with or near her sister for many years, and the Arizona branch of her family gave her much love and care through the many challenges she faced. Due to increasingly severe health issues, Janelle moved to St. George in July 2025 to live with her brother Kelton and his wife, Lisa, who were beside her at her passing. Janelle’s family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. George Rehabilitation for the attentive care Janelle received during the last two months of her life. And we’re so grateful to Janelle’s Sun River 2nd Ward and Elev8 Clubhouse families. She looked forward to the welcoming environment of Sunday worship services and enjoyed serving as a ward organist. This was also true of Janelle’s previous Trailside Ward family in Phoenix. She thrived in the supportive environment fostered by the staff and members at Elev8. Janelle attended Elev8 three days each week, where she enjoyed being a contributing part of that valuable program. This was also true of similar mental health day programs (including Recovery Empowerment Network) she attended for years in Phoenix. Faith in Jesus Christ was a big part of Janelle’s life, and she died assured of salvation by his grace and of a happy reunion with her sister, parents, extended family, and even her beloved dog Cuddles. Janelle was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. One of her endeavors was doing the family history and temple work needed to unite families forever throughout their generations. This occurs via voluntary acceptance by deceased ancestors of saving ordinances (such as baptism) performed in temples by living descendants on their behalf. Some of her ancestors helped settle Santa Clara and build the St. George Temple, where her parents and her father’s parents were married and those paternal grandparents served as ordinance workers. Janelle’s funeral will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Sun River LDS Chapel located at 4461 S Country Club Dr, St. George UT 84790. A visitation will precede the funeral from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. A live Zoom broadcast will be available at https://zoom.us/j/92801245609. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, where Janelle will be buried next to her sister at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress CA 90630, Churchyard Section, Map #10, Lot 3170, Space 3.
