Joan Carol Chappell Obituary (1934

Joan Carol Chappell passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at 90 years of age. Born on July 12, 1934, Joan’s life took her from the dustbowl of Oklahoma to the orange groves of California and then to the red hills of Southern Utah where she retired with her doting husband, Frederick Robert Chappell. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her children, Debbie Carol Culley and Gary Sherman Curtis; her six grandchildren, Leanne, Aaron, Garrett, Darby, Claire and Joelle, and her two great grandchildren, Graham and Walter. She is joined in rest by her mother, Vena, her father, Lon, brother Jack and sister Arletta, along with many other loved ones throughout her life. With a family consisting of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Joan's reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many. Among Joan’s most significant accomplishments was raising her two children, whom she held as her pride and joy. In partnership with her husband, Fred, she owned and ran a beauty salon in California, ballroom danced competitively, was part of an active quilting club, member of the Elks Lodge, adventurous RVer, and was an avid bowler, winning even more trophies as she moved into her 80’s. “Grandma” was cherished by her grandkids for her compassionate ear, willingness to give on the spot haircuts out on the porch, and for her killer meatloaf. In lieu of a funeral, those wishing to pay their respects are welcome to donate to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah at the link https://support.bestfriends.org/site/SPageServer/?pagename=memorial_gift&_gl=1*3j7nbh*_gcl_au*MTM1MTg1NTI5MS4xNzMyNDExMDEx*_ga*MTYwMzE0NTQ0MS4xNzMyNDExMDEy*_ga_JDV4SZ13C8*MTczMjQ2NTUwNC4yLjEuMTczMjQ2NTU2OS42MC4wLjA or call Best Friends at (435) 688-2327.
