John Lenard Anderson

John Lenard Anderson passed away on Wednesday February 5, 2014 at his home in St. George, Utah of cause incident to age. He was surrounded by his wife of 62 years, Donetta Taylor Anderson and many of his posterity. John was born January 3, 1928 in Cedar City, Utah to Roland J and Ellen Chaffin Anderson and was the oldest of 10 children. He grew up in Enoch, Utah where he and his brothers enjoyed many happy days riding their favorite horse (Harold), and driving a cart pulled by (Sally), their donkey. His childhood was spent enjoying his family, friends, and the great outdoors. His parents provided him with the love, nurturing, and the healthy positive environment needed for him to grow into a wonderful husband and father. He attended elementary and secondary school in Cedar City and graduated from Cedar City High School in 1946. He worked for local farmers as a youth, sheared sheep as a young man, and worked for his father as a logger and sawmill hand. After graduating from High School he enrolled at the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City. He served an LDS mission in the Texas/Louisiana Mission (1949-1951) On February 14th, 1952 John married Donetta Taylor in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple. Next week they would have been married 62 years. John graduated from the College of Southern Utah in 1960 with an Associate Degree and Brigham Young University in 1962 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering. With this new degree he went to work for Motorola Corp. in Phoenix Arizona. After working there for 10 years they moved to St. George in 1973 where he started John L Anderson Construction, a company which built homes. In 1983 he went to work for Washington County as the building inspector, a position which he held until his retirement in 1996. He was also involved with his sons in A Truss and Innovative Wood Concepts. He loved working with his children and taught them the value of enjoying hard work and perseverance. Following his retirement he and his wife, Donetta served two missions for the LDS Church, the first to Australia and then to Florida. He had a great love for the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith and found great pleasure in serving with his wife in the St. George Temple. In the temple he made many treasured friends and he strengthened his already strong testimony of the restored gospel. He is survived by eleven children – Boyd (Annette) Anderson Mesa, Arizona; Brad (Carolee) Anderson Las Vegas, Nevada; Curtis (Michelle) Anderson Santa Clara, Utah; Heber (Michele) Holm St. George, Utah; Monte (Lisa) Holm St. George, Utah; Natina (Milt) Colegrove Dallas, Texas; Annetta (James) Stout Medford, Oregon; Rick Anderson Mesquite, Nevada; Bruce Anderson St. George, Utah; Rodney Anderson St. George, Utah; Cindy (Dave) Allred Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by 44 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers and two sisters, who reside in the Utah, Nevada area. Funeral services, under the direction of Serenity Funeral Home of St. George will be held Saturday February 8th, 2014 at 10:00 am at the LDS Chapel at 520 East 700 South, St. George, Utah with a viewing prior to the Service from 8:30 to 9:30 am. A Viewing will also be held on Friday February 7, 2014 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George, UT. Interment will be in the Parowan City Cemetery.
