St. George, Utah
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Joy Andreason Swapp, who died peacefully on September 27, 2026, at her home, surrounded by family and friends. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, John. Joy was 80 years old. Joy was born on April 12, 1946, in American Falls, Idaho, to LaRue and Byron Andreason. She grew up across Idaho, Utah, and Nevada, and throughout her life learned that home was less about a particular place and more about the people she loved. After marrying John David Swapp on March 20, 1965, she followed him through his career with the United States Coast Guard, making a home wherever they happened to be. Of all the places they lived, the Pacific Northwest, especially Washington State, held a special place in both their hearts. Joy was an ambitious and tenacious woman who never let frequent moves keep her from pursuing her own dreams. Each time the family relocated, she built something new. She owned and operated several daycares and businesses in the beauty industry, often starting from scratch in a new community. She later earned her degree in Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi. Joy had an independent spirit and more grit than most. The Frank Sinatra song “My Way” seemed particularly fitting for her. For all of her determination, Joy was also warm, welcoming, and full of laughter. Her laugh was unmistakable—joyful and genuine, and never at anyone else’s expense. She loved people and had a way of making everyone feel included. She loved to garden, cook, craft, and paint, and was an especially talented artist. She also loved a project and could usually be found dreaming up her next idea or venture, right up until the end of her life. Joy and John were best friends as well as husband and wife, and their devotion to one another remained at the heart of their 57-year marriage. Wherever life took them, they faced it together. She was a devoted mother to her sons and Grandy to her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her determination, creativity, generosity, and wonderful sense of humor. Joy is survived by her sons, Justin (Jennifer) and Jared (Hollie); her eight grandchildren; her sisters; and many extended family members and friends who loved her dearly. A viewing will be held on October 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the Overton LDS chapel on 226 W Thomas Ave, Overton, NV.
