LaMont M. Nielsen

–

St George, Utah

LaMont M. Nielsen passed away peacefully at his home on July 13, 2026, surrounded by his devoted wife, children, grandchildren, their spouses, and great-grandchildren. Four years earlier, on the same date, he experienced the heartbreaking loss of his son, Morgan—a reunion his family takes comfort in believing has now taken place. LaMont was born on December 28, 1946, to Hal Lamb Nielsen and Glade Mason Nielsen. He was raised in Downey, Idaho, where he learned the value of hard work while helping on local farms, delivering newspapers, milking cows, baling hay, and assisting in the family fuel business. After graduating from high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission. He later attended Brigham Young University, to pursue building and woodworking. On September 12, 1969, LaMont was sealed to the love of his life, Carma Pearson, in the Logan Utah Temple. Together they shared more than 56 years of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and love. LaMont spent his career in construction and woodworking. He framed homes, installed cultured marble, built restaurants throughout the United States, and eventually owned Oak Tree Mill, where he became known for his custom cabinetry, home remodeling, and fine woodworking. Among his many unique projects were the duck telephones and telephone booths he built, and his craftsmanship was featured in hotels, Las Vegas casinos, and on The Price Is Right. Later in life, he worked as a construction superintendent before retiring to Enterprise, where he continued building, creating, and improving the family home. More important than any accomplishment was the love he had for his family. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He cherished family gatherings and took great pride in the lives of those he loved. LaMont is survived by his beloved wife, Carma Pearson Nielsen; his children, Michele Gardner (James), Shawn Paul Nielsen, and Jonathan Michael "Jonny" Nielsen; his daughter-in-law, Melanie Nielsen (widow of Morgan Hal Nielsen); his son-in-law, Tod Rees (widower of Chantel Nielsen); his grandchildren, Chelsea Gardner (Bradley), Callie Rees, Taylor Gardner (Kimberlee), Tara Rees, Jaron Nielsen, Cydni Rees, TG Rees, Paige Nielsen, Rachel Hiatt (Tyler), and Trevor Gardner; his great-grandchildren, Madison Gardner, Aaron Gardner, Megan Gardner, and Mason Gardner; his brothers, Mac Nielsen, Craig Nielsen, and Kelly Nielsen; his sister, Lori Lynn Nielsen; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his son, Morgan Hal Nielsen (July 13, 2022); his daughter, Chantel Nielsen (March 19, 2026); his parents, Hal Lamb Nielsen and Glade Mason Nielsen; and his sister, Debra Jean Nielsen. LaMont's life was defined by faith, integrity, craftsmanship, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the homes he built, the lessons he taught, the example he set, and the family he loved so deeply. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 80 South Center Street, Enterprise, Utah 84725. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow at the Enterprise Cemetery, 565 East 100 North, Enterprise, Utah 84725. The Nielsen family expresses their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, kindness, thoughtfulness, and support they have received during this time. They are especially grateful to his hospice nurses, physician assistants, caring neighbors, family, and friends whose compassion, service, and friendship brought comfort to LaMont and his family during his final days.
