Leo Peterson

Leo “Pete” Peterson Our loving husband and father returned to his Heavenly Parents on May 12, 2017. Leo passed away peacefully at home with his wife Daisy and some of his children and grandchildren at his side. Leo was born Aug 7, 1923, in Ogden, Utah to Samuel Charles Peterson and Mary Ada Barlow. At a young age, the family moved to Gunnison, Utah where they lived to adulthood. Leo met his first wife, Oda Bach Peterson, when he hopped off a freight train in Manti, Utah. They married Feb 23, 1943 and had three children, Rebecca, Lee and Lester. They were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple on Jun 16, 1961. Oda passed away May 16, 1984. Leo and Daisy first met when he and Oda did their banking in Yucaipa. Daisy was an employee that helped them regularly to handle their banking business. Leo returned home to Southern California after an extended out of town job assignment to see Daisy attending church in his home Ward, not yet a member. As the saying goes, “the rest is history.” Leo baptized Daisy and on Oct 10, 1987, Leo married Daisy Luvie Payne Cornett in a loving ceremony in Yucaipa, California and three more children joined the family circle, Carolyn Millenaar, Marvin Cornett and Brenda Cornett. They were later sealed in the Denver Temple. Leo was always a hard worker and loved what he did for a living. He was Paving Superintendent for Kasler Corporation for about 23 years and travelled to various parts of the world for them. If you have driven on Southern California freeways, more than likely Leo and his crew made that possible. Leo was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1952 along with his oldest daughter. He served faithfully for many years in the St. George Temple. He is survived by his wife, Daisy, his children Rebecca Greene (Pat), Lee Peterson (Sue), Lester Peterson (Pam), Carolyn Millenaar (Ray), Marvin Cornett and Brenda Cornett; 24 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren and 5-7/9 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 6 siblings and his first wife. The family wishes to express appreciation to Southern Utah Veteran’s Home in Ivins, Utah, Dr. Rignell and Dr. Codiga as well as Canyon Home Care & Hospice for their sweet and tender care. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Bloomington 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 3381 Mulberry Dr., St George, UT. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 10:30a.m. at the chapel. Interment with Military Honors will take place Monday , May 22, 2017 at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA.
