Leon H Brown

Leon H Brown (Brownie) 1934 – 2024 Leon H Brown passed away August 2, 2024 at the Southern Utah Veterans Home, Ivins, Utah. Leon was born in Odgen, Utah on April 7, 1934 to Ray D. Brown and Mamie Leone Davies Brown Smith. Leon was preceded in death by his mother and Father, 1 brother and 2 sisters. He married the love of his life Sandra Bingham April 13, 1960 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. Leon is survived by his wife Sandra Bingham Brown (St. George, Utah) daughters Andrea McBride (Martinez, CA) and Angela Brown (Longview, Washington) as well as 3 granddaughters, Torilyn McBride (San Francisco, CA), Jocelyn Rose Walters (Spokane, WA), and Kaelyn Walters (Concord, CA), a Sister Janiel Larsen (Washington, Utah). Leon served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. Leon lived in Odgen Utah and grew up loving to ski the mountains of Utah. He spent many a winter at Snow Basin and Alta. After marriage and continuing his education Leon was transferred in 1973 to Lake Oswego, Oregon where he excelled in marketing and sales with Acme Packaging. While in Lake Oswego he purchased a small sail boat where he and Sandy had great fun sailing and competing in races on the Willamette River in Portland and various lakes in the northwest creating many wonderful memories. Leon also became and avid Golfer and continued to enjoy that sport for many years. In 1986 Leon was transferred to Benicia, CA as the Regional Manager for eleven western states. During that time in Benicia, CA Leon was called to serve as the Bishop of the Lake Herman Ward where he was dearly loved and known to shed a tear or two whenever the Primary Children sang. Upon retiring from a very successful career in 2003 Leon and Sandy made their home in St. George Utah. Leon served in the St. George Temple baptistry for several years. Leon loved being with the youth and they enjoyed his great smile and welcoming personality. Leon loved his two daughters and granddaughters and was quick to share how proud he was of his family. They have been a great joy and have brought much happiness into his and Sandy’s lives. Leon left us with an eternity of wonderful memories that will fill the emptiness in the hearts of many. We know there were many on the other side of the veil thrilled to have him home again. He will be missed. The Family expresses their deepest appreciation to the Hospice team of Doctors and nurses at the Southern Utah Veterans home who so graciously and diligently cared for Leon during his care there. In lieu of flowers, family requests considering donating to “Disabled American Veterans”
