Norman Ray Walker

Norman Ray Walker (Ray) passed away peacefully on 11 May 2024. Ray was born 20 July 1937 in San Francisco, California to James Carver and Norma Nielsen. Ray had a half-brother whom he loved dearly, Burben Burnell Walker (1939 - 2024). Ray and Burnell grew up together in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ray was a proud member of Idaho Falls High School’s Class of 1955. Ray married Ida Harden (1938 – 2020) on 23 December 1955 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together they had 4 children: Raymond, N. Dean, Bryan, and Pamela. Ray served in the United States Army from 1956 – 59, during which time he manned a radar station in upstate New York. Upon completion of his service, Ray moved to Seattle, Washington and worked for The Boeing Company. He later started his own lighting and distribution company, also in Seattle. Ray married Kathleen O’Nash (1942 - 2020) on 17 July 1976 in Seattle, Washington. Together they adopted 3 children: James, Elizabeth, and Victoria, and enjoyed 43 years of marriage. They lived in Seattle for many years, Portland, Oregon for almost a decade, and then relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas in the early 90s. Ray started selling insurance after their move to Little Rock. He was the kind of person one would meet and felt like they had known forever: His blue eyes that sparkled when he laughed, his welcoming demeanor, his ability to completely captivate an audience, and his kind heart – all contributed to his success and the many awards and accolades he received over the years in the insurance industry. Ray enjoyed traveling and appreciated the beauty in all things. Ray and Kathleen travelled around the world, spending time in Africa, India, Europe, and throughout the United States. He was especially passionate about beautiful cars, and very much enjoyed attending classic car shows. Ray was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held many leadership positions: Bishop, Stake Missionary, Sunday School Teacher, and Temple Worker. Ray found great pleasure and fulfillment in serving others. Ray leaves behind many who will surely miss him, his stories, and his bright blue eyes. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brother. Left to honor his life and legacy are Ray’s 7 children, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren.
