Orlene Pickett Obituary (1927

Orlene Pickett of St. George Utah, formerly of Parowan Utah, said good night and I love you for the last time here on earth on June 27, 2020. She was born in Oxford, Kansas to Orlie Guy Hays and Hazel Hays. Her parents and two sisters Margaret Karst and Jan Perez preceded her in death. She is survived by sons Johnny Guffey, (Pat Robinson) Scott Guffey and daughter Sheri Serrano. (Gerry Serrano), five grandchildren Jonathan Guffey (Jenny Guffey) , J.B. Guffey (Stephanie Guffey), Brandon Guffey (Jamie Guffey) Josh Serrano (Domonique Serrano) and Shannon Hartstrom (Jason Hartstrom) and eleven great grandchildren Colt, and Emma Guffey, Cruz , Wyatt , Bryan and Thea Guffey, Gavin and Presley Hartstrom, Bo Serrano, Cameron and Caitlin Guffey. She was Mom and Mommo and the essence of love to all of them. Orlene married Bernard Guffey when he returned from the war. When he passed away in 1957, she was left with three young children ages 3 to 9. She showed just how strong she was. With the help of her loving family, she managed to provide for her children with everything they needed, but most of all love. She later met and married Jess Pickett of southern California in 1961. They moved to Parowan Utah, where she became a part of Jess’s Eyre family that had always lived there. She loved Parowan and the people there. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and sewing; her skills often receiving recognition at County fairs. Eventually, they sold the farm and moved to St. George, Utah. Jess and Orlene were members of the Bloomington Golf and Country Club where she played golf and bridge for many years. Orlene always made friends with almost everyone she met. After Jess died in 2009, Orlene lived alone with the loving support of her wonderful neighbors Russ and Sandy Bott and so many of her other friends until she moved into The Meadows in 2017. There she enjoyed making people laugh, always offering her latest jokes. She loved to laugh and to enjoy the moment. She was always concerned and caring for others until it was time for others to care for her. Of all the important lessons she taught her family, the greatest one was that the most important thing in life is love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion’s Way Hospice, 1173 South 250 West #401A, St, George UT 84770.
