Sharon Gallup 1950–2026 Our beloved sister, aunt, friend, and faithful disciple, Sharon Gallup, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with Alzheimer’s - dementia. Born September 16, 1950, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to John Marlin (Jack) Gallup and Virginia Simmons Gallup, Sharon was the second of four children. She grew up primarily in Eugene, Oregon. From an early age, she was gifted with a profound love of music, which became a lifelong channel for sharing spiritual peace and testifying of Jesus Christ. A tragic canoeing accident that claimed the life of her teenage brother David, deepened her reliance on music and poetry. Over the years, she wrote hundreds of comforting poems that blessed her family and friends. With strong patriotic convictions and love for American history and the Constitution, Sharon served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during wartime. She later excelled as a top-producing sales manager in print advertising, traveling the West Coast – often with her beloved, ultra-pampered dogs and cats in tow. Chances are that these anxious pets would have been first-in-line to greet Sharon on the other side of the veil. Though she married and divorced twice and had no children of her own, Sharon poured her heart into her nieces, nephews, and countless ward members. She was especially devoted as her mother Virginia's full-time companion and caregiver in later years, a sacrifice her siblings will forever cherish. Sharon's outgoing, energetic personality won lifelong friends wherever she lived, particularly in St. George, her "Heaven on Earth." Together with her mother, she blessed wards in South Jordan, Riverton, and St. George through music – singing, directing choirs, writing sonnets and Christmas programs, and playing piano and organ to share testimonies of Christ. After a season away from the gospel path, Sharon returned with renewed fervor. In her later years, she developed a deep thirst for Church history and the Book of Mormon, frequently sharing the hope, love, peace, and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ. As she wrote: “I’m not a person to sit on the sidelines. I stand up for what I believe, period! … I know who I want to serve.” She found great joy serving as a Relief Society instructor as well as a Sunday School teacher to the youth in St. George. Sharon frequently opened her heart and home by providing home-cooked meals, her famous pies and peach cobbler and cherished “Movie Nights” with the youth, featuring black-and-white films from her vast DVD collection. These friendships and fond memories gave Sharon great joy and sustained her in her final days. Sharon is survived by her brothers Mark (Sylvie) Gallup (currently serving a mission in Honduras) and Paul (Nancy) Gallup, along with beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother David. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by funeral services at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 550 E. 700 So., St. George, UT. Interment will follow at Tonaquint Cemetery, 1777 So. Dixie Drive, St. George, UT. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate teams at The Meadows, The Abbington, and the Southern Utah Veterans Home, as well as to family, friends, and neighbors for their transportation, support, and love during Sharon’s final years.
