Sheila Ann Curl

Sheila Ann Curl passed away November 2, 2025, at home in Kanab, Utah, surrounded by family. She was born on August 4, 1942, in Salina, Utah to wonderful parents Douglas and Ilean (Scovil) Clifton. She was their pride and joy and their only child. Doug was in the Navy during WW2, and they were stationed in Long Beach and Hawaii. Mom had a wonderful childhood, even going to grade school in Hawaii for a time. They returned to Long Beach and mom went to Bellflower High School in Long Beach. She loved the lifelong friends she would make there and never missed a reunion. She put herself through business college and met Harvey Von Hefley. They married, settled in Diamond Bar, CA and her three children that would come along would become her pride and joy. She loved being a wife and mother. Mom was THE most dedicated mother to her three children Karen, Ryan and Kate, cultivating their talents, teaching them, loving them and creating the most wonderful childhood for them. She would become a well-known guitar teacher in the area and truly loved teaching. It was absolutely her calling. Of course, all three children learned to play, and mom would sign them up to perform everywhere. She would beam with pride from her seat as they played. They moved to Mission Viejo, California and soon after, would divorce. Mom went to nursing school and excelled at caring for others. It was her nature. She was so excited the day she graduated. Mom met Bill Curl, the love of her life, and they married. They moved to Utah because mom had become the first victim advocate in Utah by direction of the Governor and helped open The Dove House in St. George, Utah. Soon her children and parents followed- all settling there as well. Her talents included nursing in all kinds of different realms of the career, as she was incredibly smart and capable and could do anything she set her mind to. She was very loved and respected by her patients, judges, and all others who had the privilege to know her. She loved, and we mean LOVED, animals- especially pomeranians, camping, reading, writing, ATV riding, Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffet, cooking, baking, entertaining, picnics, red vines, a great dessert, her homemade chocolate frosties, Big Bear, Calico Ghost Town, the beach, Lake Powell, vacationing, Duck Creek, and if there was an adventure to be had- mom was the first to sign up. She loved having fun. Playing guitars, loving her grandchildren and planning special trips- camping and ATVing- became the memories they cherish. Family was so important to mom. She was classy, dignified and loved serving food in pretty dishes and sharing recipes. She loved pretty clothes, dressing up and dancing. She loved her extended family and wouldn’t miss a reunion, as she was a social butterfly and loved talking with everyone, because a good story and a good laugh were sure to be had. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved her friends. Wherever Bill was, mom wanted to be, too. They were always together and enjoyed countless memories-even living on a boat for a time. She loved and adored Bill and there are just too many beautiful adventures they shared to put into words. Mom even took flying lessons with him and loved flying with Bill in his airplanes. We will all remember her big smile, her quick wit and her love for life. She is survived by her husband Bill, her three children, Karen (Darrell) Cashin, Ryan (Kristy) Hefley and Kate (Clint) Dalley and her step-children, Kym Taylor (John Egan), Natalie (Adam) Scott, Chrissy Curl, Bill (Lisa) Curl and Tim (Sarah) Curl and because we would run out of ink naming them all- 23 grandkids and 39 great- grandkids along with favorite cousins, former neighbors and great friends that she truly cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, favorite aunts, uncles, cousins and her beloved animals. Sheila will be laid to rest in St. George, Utah at the Tonaquint Cemetery, alongside her loving parents. Graveside services will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at Noon.
