Sidney Mark Orton

September 17, 1943 -- November 23, 2024 On a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon, doing what he loved most, riding his motorcycle Sid left to join his heavenly family. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and family. His fun sense of humor, silly stories and fun-loving personality will be remembered by many. Sid was born in Idaho Falls, ID to Lollin D and Marguerite Sundberg Orton on September 17, 1943. Sid was the second son; he had an older brother Steven. He was raised in Parowan, UT and Sid went to school and graduated from Parowan High School. He always said, “You don’t know how hard it was to not be a very good speller, and your mother is the High School English teacher.” Sid married Mina Lamoureux from Paragonah in 1965 and adopted Darren and they had Christian. They divorced and he later married Teresa Truman in 1976 in St George. He became a stepdad to Albert Craig Snow, Teresa’s son, and they had one son, Jason Lollin in 1977. They raised their family in St George until 1987 when they moved to San Jose, California. In 2008 Sid and Teresa returned to St. George to retire and take care of Teresa’s parents. He worked during the summers at Bryce Canyon Lodge and Grand Canyon Lodge as a porter and busboy. He had fond memories of those days and made many friends. He attended University of Utah for a year but decided life in California was a better plan, so he struck out on his own. He attended California Trade Tech and was certified as a Class A Welder/Fitter. He loved being a welder and draftsman. He talked about many of the projects he worked on and structures he helped build. He tried his hand at many different jobs and trades and was generally a success at all of them. In 1987, while living in St. George he had the chance to work for Lipton Tea in Santa Cruz, so he moved his family to California and became a maintenance engineer, which he enjoyed and then retired in 2003. Sid had many skills, talents and hobbies, of which he excelled. He was an accomplished trumpet player, terrible singer, skilled carpenter, electrician, plumber and all-around handyman. He never met an appliance he couldn’t take apart, fix and put back together. He took on many duties supporting Teresa in all her activities and jobs. He loved the challenge of a new project or inventing some little thing and he was so creative. He was a golfer and had the gift of self-depreciation. No one laughed harder at his flubs than he did. He brought joy and laughter to his friends and family and will be remembered for his quick wit and funny stories. Sid was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a deep and abiding faith in the plan of salvation. He loved his family and was happiest spending time with his grandkids and all his family. He belonged to the Elks for 35 years and supported many of the charities for them. Sid is survived by his loving wife, Teresa, stepson Craig Snow, son Jason Lollin, son Christian, sisters in law, Elva Orton, Arlene Mills and Cindy Bluemel, brother in laws, Brad Truman, Sam Mills and Ralf Bluemel. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother, older brother Steven, son Darren and many Aunts and Uncles. He had 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11 AM in the Morningside 6th Ward Chapel at 930 S. Morningside Drive, St George, UT 84790. Cremation services are handled by Serenity Mortuary, 1316 S. 400 E. #A5, St George UT 84790.
